What made you start R.E.D? I was placed in in-school suspension my junior year of high school. I was the only upperclassman in there the entire day. I was so embarrassed so when the teacher that was on duty, who is one of my mentors, suggested that I should do something more produc-tive that trash talking, I immediately thought about sports but he told me to be Oprah. That is when I thought about it for a few minutes and mentioned an activity. He gave me the idea of doing a theater pro-gram so I thought of a mentoring program because being in in-school suspension was horrible. How did you start R.E.D.? I have a lot of different mentors because I love criticism and advice that will help benefit me. I was placed in in-school suspension and the teacher at the time was asking all kinds of questions of why I was in trouble. All these questions lead to him asking, “What can you do to not get into any more trouble?” I thought for a few seconds and said, “I will start a program.” He once again started asking different types of questions and I would write down my answers. He introduced me to my current pastor

and I presented the idea to him. After that we started to build and I took all the steps in order to make sure we were able to start Fall 2009.

Why do you want to help young girls? I want to help young girls because I feel like parents don’t really notice what the kids are going through. It is not because they don’t care, it is more so because they have to work long hours to provide for their kids. Young people will always need someone there to support them my goal to give students the support I didn’t have when I was going through hard times. It is to show them that no matter the problem is, someone is always there to help you.
