STONE BRIDGE DECA OFFICER APPLICATION 2016-2017

Stone Bridge DECA officers are expected to work as a team to establish goals for community service, competition and fundraising as well as lead the chapter to achieve these goals. To be successful in this role DECA officers are expected to have certain qualifications and must be willing to commit the time, energy and enthusiasm required to be a successful DECA leader.

Qualities of a Great Officer Candidate will: • Work hard to provide leadership at all Stone Bridge DECA activities and events • Make arrangements to attend a majority of DECA activities • Attend all meetings and functions of DECA on time and be an active participant • Check in with the advisors at least twice a week regarding duties • Be enthusiastic and present a positive and motivational attitude • Demonstrate outstanding honesty and integrity • Have initiative to exceed expectations • Respect the advisors’ role • Provide support for other members in their activities • Have the courage to think outside the box

Stone Bridge DECA Officer Requirements: • Possess leadership skills or aspirations to become a leader • Attend officer meetings every Monday and/or Wednesday before school • Attend every chapter event and activity to the best of your ability • Must have at least one year of DECA experience to qualify for an officer position • Must be a junior or senior to apply for President or Executive Vice President • Attend Officer training and executive team activities that include and are not limited to:

o Officer training (June, August and FLC in September or October) o Officer meetings (weekly) o Chapter meetings (first Tuesday of each month) o Officer Installation Banquet (October)

Entrepreneur, Management Responsible for connecting with Chartered Association (Virginia DECA) Officers and establishing chapter vision, management, and organization that ensures each chapter officer has the training, support, accountability, and resources to deliver a powerful DECA experience for each member. Ideal candidates possess strong public speaking, organization and interpersonal skills and demonstrate initiative & follow through with chapter duties & tasks.

EXECUTIVE VP

Entrepreneur, Junior Management Responsible for assisting the President and advisors. The Executive VP will be responsible for attending Stone Bridge ICC meetings when president cannot attend. Executive VP needs to help plan, organize and implement VA DECA day activities and breakfast. Additionally, the Executive VP should co-organize the DECA member Initiation ceremony with President, attend all DECA Officer Team meetings, chapter meetings & DECA activities, and consistently communicates with DECA advisors and officer team.

VP OF LEADERSHIP

Emerging Leaders Responsible for all non-competitive event career and leadership activities. Oversees DECA Campaigns, community service, school service, conferences (field trips), recognition & scholarship, and leadership training. Ideal candidates possess strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills and are able to encourage and motivate chapter members. Responsible for assisting advisors and VPs to ensure that all Stone Bridge DECA Chapter events have ample volunteers and support from the chapter. The VP of Leadership will engage chapter members throughout the entire year to ensure maximum participation and support for chapter campaigns and guide officer team to ensure the chapter meets chapter campaign goals.

VP OF COMMUNICATION

Careers Responsible for chapter participation, preparation, and performance in Competitive Events. Oversees DECA Challenges in addition to working with committee leaders in preparation for competitive events. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, possess strong time management skills, and are able to motivate chapter members to compete.

VP OF MARKETING

Marketing Responsible for initial member recruitment, branding, and promotions. Oversees digital media, public relations, social media, website and chapter newsletter communications. Implements chapter social activities and assists the VP of Leadership with member recognition. Ideal candidates possess strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills and are able to bring chapter members together to foster a positive experience for all.

VP OF MEDIA

Media Specialist The VP of Media is responsible for creating and maintaining the marketing display case and promotional media. The VP of Media should be qualified and comfortable taking photos at DECA meetings and activities as well as collecting photos taken by members. Each day the VP of Media will need to maintain the DECA Twitter page and Instagram to promote the chapter.

VP OF HOSPITALITY

Hospitality Responsible for connecting members to a welcome, value-filled, fun educational experience. Oversees new member activities, chapter meetings and chapter events. Serves as the liaison for alumni and professional members and assists the VP of Leadership with member recognition. Ideal candidates possess strong verbal and written communication skills in addition to exhibiting interpersonal skills.
