W “otter” shame

"A mature female otter was found on the edge of the Stoke School to Wistanswick road, having been hit by a car in daylight late in the afternoon of Friday 31st January. Apparently otters travel extensively using ditches and culverts and in this case the culvert under the road was flooded, forcing it to cross the road, with tragic consequences. It is believed that it came from the River Tern. The Environment Agency has taken it for a post mortem as part of their ongoing research into water quality and sustainability."
