Performance NotesStand by Me was originally performed by Ben E. King, who co-wrote it with Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It was inspired by thespiritual Lord, Stand by Me and uses two lines found in Psalms 46:2-3. The duo of Leiber and Stoller wrote enough hit songs to be thesubject of the Broadway show Smokey Joe's Cafe. There have been over 400 recorded versions of the song. Part of the charm andsignature of the song is the bass riff, which continues throughout and keeps strict tempo from beginning to end.

Steve Delehanty is a gifted pianist, arranger, judge and quartet singer. He has hundreds of arrangements to his credit, including TheBeach Boys Medley, On a Slow Boat to China and There Is Love Wherever There Is Song.
