The best of WatchetWatchet is an ancient harbour town on the West Somerset coast boasting a colourful maritime history dating back over two thousand years.
The port was busy and thriving in the mid-19th century when iron ore from the Brendon Hills was being shipped from here to South Wales to be smelted and many other local trades made use of the estuary for transport.
Paper-making was also an important industry within the town with the Wansborough paper mill creating employment over many years.
Manufacturing ceased in 2015 and today Watchet is a more peaceful place, still holding the charm from long ago whilst offering the amenities essential to modern day living, including doctors’ surgery, junior school, post office, cash point, library, hairdressers’ and convenience stores along with a host of antique, gift and art shops, delis and cafes pubs, restaurants, a visitors’ centre and two museums.

Directions from M5
Leaving the M5 at either Junction 23 Bridgwater or 25 Taunton, follow the signs to Minehead. Shortly after passing through Williton, take a right at the Tropiquaria roundabout towards Watchet. As you descend Brendon Road into Watchet, turn left over the Railway Bridge to the town centre and
then take the first left into Anchor Street. Approximately 150m on the left hand side, you will see the red turbine and the entrance to Stoates Mill. The Development is located beyond the archway to the rear of the mill buildings. For navigation please use TA23 0AZ.
