OBJECTIVE
• To generate energy for local activities during power failure.
• To implement a mini power station for domestic activities.
• To Generate energy & save it for future use.

STIRLING GENERATOR • Closed Cycle – the working medium never leaves
the system.
• Reversible – the reverse reaction is also possible.
• External heat source – any heat source is valid, as long as it has sufficient heat to support the process.
![Page 4: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
STIRLING ENGINE
• First developed in 1816 by Dr. Robert STIRLING.
• After development, had little use until the mid 1900’s, when it became more common.
• Used today in many applications, primarily green energy, since the heat source can be anything (geothermal, solar, etc.)
![Page 5: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
COMPONENTS
• Uses pistons and cylinders to rotate a crankshaft
• Types– Alpha and Beta• Alpha Stirling engines use two cylinders and
two pistons• Beta Stirling engines use one cylinder, one
piston and a “displacer”
(In this project we use Beta-Sterling engine)

How It Works??• When the heat energy is supplied, the base gets heated
up.• This heats up the air – causing it to expand.• This pushes the piston forward.• The air gets cooled ( either by natural or forced cooling
process)• The Fly Wheel causes the piston to return to its original
position.• The process continues to get continuous motion of fly
wheel.• By constructing a generator around the fly wheel ,
energy can be harnessed.

ENERGY INPUT TYPES
Stirling generator requires a heat source for producing energy. The heat energy can be of any type. Some examples are
• Solar energy• Incandescent bulb• Body heat• Devices (computer, CPU etc)
![Page 11: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
CONSTRUCTION OF GENERATOR
A pair of permanent magnets.
Required size of cardboard.
Shaft as per required length.
Copper wire for windings.

PHYSICAL VIEW OF GENERATOR
![Page 13: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
GENERATOR
Output voltage is about 2v for the 200ft length of copper wire.
Output voltage is alternating current We can convert this ac to dc using electronic
valve. Or we can charge the rechargeable battery.

SOLAR STIRLING GENERATOR
• Uses reflected sun rays as heat source
• Green energy
• Could power a house
![Page 15: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
SOLAR ENERGY – STIRLING GENERATOR
• Very large solar Stirling engine
• Could probably power a small city
![Page 16: Stirling Engine - HP-Final Ppt](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082220/5533aefb550346457f8b496c/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Advantages
• Mechanically very simple in comparison to internal combustion engines
• Lightweight, compact• Not limited by fuel or heat source• Aside from a longer warm-up time, reliable
in cold weather (unlike some engines)
