August is the month of beaches, picnics, parks, and popsicles. This August is predicted to produce record setting high temperatures. Make sure you adhere to heat precautions and hydrate frequently.

There are many activities and events scheduled for inside our community as well outside. Please see our calendars on the next pages for details.

Soon summer will be over, the kids will be back to school, and vacations will have become memories. Labor Day will be here and the plentiful colors of autumn will begin to appear, but the fun and relaxation of the season will remain here at Spring Hills, Somerset. Plans are already in the works for an exciting “Assisted Living Week.”!

Stimulating Environment

Life/Work Access Attractions o�er opportunities to engage Residents by bringing their past life work back to the present, renewing their sense of ful�llment. �ese purposeful spaces are uniquely designed to spark memories and create activities that encourage interaction and independence in a safe and secure setting. �ese therapeutic environments can either be stimulating or calming to match the needs of the Resident.

Examples of Life/Work Access Attractions include:

General Store: Residents enjoy the opportunity to shop (no money necessary) and explore a diverse array of items such as scarves, hats, costume jewelry, wallets, purses, books and more! �is beloved shopping experience renews independence, improves Residents’ mood and provides comfort.

Kitchen Attraction: Residents have access to a full kitchen, bringing back warm memories of home cooked meals and special moments with family. �is attraction o�ers therapeutic bene�ts such as stress relief and improved focus.

Workshop Attraction: Provides freedom to build birdhouses, model cars and planes. �is stimulating space promotes thinking and keeps the joints moving.

August 5th 2:00pmGreen’rgy Horticulture TherapyPractice your hula for the Luau and enjoy August summer fun. Join the Gardening Group for a horticulture workshop on tropicals. Learn about, pot up, and create your own special, easy-care tropical plant to enjoy all year long. Al supplies provided. No experience needed. Come early for seating at this popular program, led by licensed horticulturist, Pat.

August 11th 1:30pmTrip to Howell Living FarmHowell Living History Farm is a time machine that takes you back to the year 1900 - a time when horses and buggies traveled the lanes of Pleasant Valley, and when farms were bordered by snake fences and Osage orange trees. Explore various houses and visit animals all on the farm. Howell’s Living History Farm is located in Lambertville, NJ. Visit this early 1900s horse-powered farm for a glimpse into a bygone era. Admission is free.

August 16th 11:00 amWellness with Indra: OsteoporosisOsteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little bone, or both. As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from sneezing or minor bumps. Join our Wellness Director for informative and interesting program.

August 20th 2:00 pmDance Carnival with MannyJoin Manny with his Latin/Caribbean Carnivale! Singing and performing along with music and conga drums, Manny is bringing Latin, Caribbean music plus 50s-60s-70s pop hits, jazz standards kicked up Latin style and some Motown. Manny will get those toes tapping with his spicy and upbeat show!

August 24th 2:00pm Luau Party with JulianThe music, food, drink, and decor will take you on an imagination vacation to Hawaii!! Julian is an interactive entertainer who loves to get the audience up dancing. Wear your Hawaiian shirt or hula skirt!

August 26th 2:00pmLazy, hazy days of summer Based out of New Jersey, USA, Gordon James, is a sought after performer, composer, arranger, producer & recording artist preparing to make a huge splash in the International music markets. - “Those Lazy Hazy Days of Summer” program featuring songs like “You are my Sunshine, Blue Skies, On the Sunny Side of the Street, That Sunday That Summer, Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer, Under the Boardwalk Yellow Polka Dot Bikini and many more!!

August 14th 2:00 pmSummer Olympic GamesLet the annual senior Olympic Games begin…Which team will win the gold? Youth volunteers from local schools will be on hand to help out and cheer our residents on! After the games cool down with fruit pops and enjoy the awards ceremony presentation. Always a fun and active event for our Spring Cottage Gang.

August 19th 2:00 pmHarp Music TherapyProfessional Harpist Pattie Turse performs classical, broadway, old and new favorites, as well as requests on the harp. All are invited to relax and listen to the soothing sound of this amazing instrument and this talented musician.

August 27th 2:00 pmDrumming Circle Certified drum circle facilitator, Christopher Phillips leads the group. He believes the remarkable thing about the drum experience is that, after a short time, the group begins hitting the drum at the same time, using the same beat. Music gives people with Alzheimer’s the chance to release pent up emotions, to share their feelings .A therapeutic and lively activity.
