PRESIDENT’S PAGE
The Holiday Season is upon us again whether we’re ready for it or not. It’s the time of year to spend with family and friends, but also the time for advisors to push for year-‐end deadlines and put the finishing touches on their 2017 business plans. It’s a time of year that we’re all so busy, taking a few minutes to read a president’s page may seem like an eternity. And in that spirit, I’d like to briefly update you on some events that have transpired in your local NAIFA Board recently and give you an idea of some of our business plan objectives for 2017:
Recent Updates
· Unfortunately, our President for this Fiscal Year, Dan Dalin, had to step down from his position in November. Dan was on our Board for over 4 years and he will greatly be missed by our association. I will be filling his expiring term leading into my term as local president for our 2017-‐2018 Fiscal Year. This also leaves our Board of Directors slightly undermanned, so please reach out to me or Gary Cappon if you are interested in learning more about our open Board position.
· Our IFAPAC contributions and number of contributors has increased significantly over the previous year under the direction on Milt Hill. There is still time to get in a contribution for 2016, so please contact Milt or I if you need help in doing so, or visit our website www.naifanet.com/syracuse and click the link “Contribute to IFAPAC” on the top of the page.
· On Friday, December 9th we had a NAIFA night at the Syracuse Crunch game. This was a great way for our members to get together to unwind during this busy season, vent about industry regulations, and pick each other’s brains about how everyone is preparing for such a monumental upcoming year for our industry. I was able to get some valuable feedback in regards to NAIFA; both positive, and some ideas on how we can do things a better.
Preview of 2017
· Mark your Calendars for January 19th as we’ll be having a local SAIFA meeting with a much anticipated speaker in Todd McGee, as well as a very special “Distinguished Service Award” recipient
· Getting more involved with the local political landscape. This is a trend across our country right now and it will be as important as or more important to do so in our industry than in any other. It will start by getting a better idea of who in our association knows or has a relationship with any of our local government representatives. When you hear the acronym APIC(Advisor’s Political Action Committee), this is what we’re referring to. We’ll be reaching out to all of you to further discuss.
· Membership-‐ This is the name of the game. In order for NAIFA to have a strong voice in Washington and Albany, we need to have Members. Not only for the dues revenue that they generate, but more so to show solidarity in our industry and voting numbers behind our concerns and opposition to legislation that we belive negatively impact our industry and communities. As a Board, we’ll do everything in our power to provide value locally and be a sounding board for your concerns. If you know someone who you think should be a member, please talk to them about joining or call me if you need help determining the best way to go about helping our membership grow.
