Long writing task for the week

Day 1

LQ: Can I note initial ideas?

This week you are going to be using your experience of having to stay at home as inspiration to write some poetry!

Click on the link below to watch a video by a performance poet and hip hop artist. He will talk you through what you will be working on this week.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=52&v=ErkWDEqrIQY&feature=emb_logo

So, for today, on a piece of paper, or on a word document, I would like you to gather together your thoughts.

List things you’ve done or observed during your time in lock down, even the boring things like brushing your teeth!

List the things you have found different, new, old, fun, scary, weird and say why.

What things you are looking forward to doing in the near future? Write a list.

What have missed most during lock down?

What have you enjoyed most?

Who have you been listening or speaking to and how? Have you been Face Timing? Texting? Phone calls? What have the conversations been about? Write it all down!

Tomorrow, you will start to use these ideas to create some poetry.

The poet in the video has said that he would like to put some good examples of poetry that you write on his website and he will read some out on his next video. How

L.Q: Can I locate countries on a world map?

Martin Luther King said, "Before you finish breakfast, you’ve depended on half the world."

It might feel like the world is closing off - but it's actually in your kitchen cupboards! So, with that in mind, we would like you to have a good look inside your kitchen cupboards (check with your parents/carers that this is ok before you start digging around) and select up to 10 food items (you can choose more if you feel like it!).

Can you find out where in the world these products are from? Read the packets or research online to find out. How many different countries have made the food you and your family eat? Then, using the world map attached below, or one you find online, or one you already have if you have one, show where the products come from. You can print this map off (if you have a printer) or make a PowerPoint and add a picture of a world map to a slide. If you are doing a PowerPoint, you could take pictures of your food items and add them to your slide.

Scroll to the bottom of this document to see a picture of how the task could be presented.

Once you have finished, email us a picture of what you have done or your PowerPoint. We will be so interested to see what you have done!

Have fun!

There will be another task related to this later in the week.
