Steps to configure Oracle VM

I am creating a Virtual Disk Image with 65 GB of fixed storage.

Make note that in this you cannot edit the storage, whereas, you can edit the RAM.

I am planning to install Oracle Linux 64 bit OS.

Select Create.

Select as Virtual Disk Image

Based on your requirment you can make it as Fixed or Dynamic.

Once the Virtual Disk has been created start the VM from Virtual Manager.

Once you started it will prompt to the below screen. As of now you just configured the VM and now you

are going to configure Oracle Linux 5.8.

Download the Linux binaries from Oracle Edelivery. You have V31120-01 and V31121-01. Download

both the iso files in the same location.

Select V31120-01 and click Start.

It will take to the below page.

Press Enter

Select Skip

Select Next

Select the language as English (it will prompt twice).

Select Yes

I am partitioning the system based on my reqirment.

Click Yes

Click New

I am creating a partition as /vino with 39936 MB of storage.

I am creating a partition as /u01 with 16384 MB of storage.

I am creating a partition as /tmp with 2048 MB of storage.

Give the Root password.

Select Customize later and Click Next

Click Reboot.

Select Firewall as Disabled

Select SELinux Setting as Enforcing

Disable the Kdump. It you are using this as a real server you need Kdump to be enabled to analize the

crash.

Create an application user.

Click Finish

Since Gust host rpm is not installed I am not able to share the file from my local machine to the VM host

which is a specific feature in Oracle Linux. Follow the below steps to winscp the files from local host to

the guset host.

System, Display, Storage, Audio, Serial Ports and USB Leave as default.

Logon to the gust host as as root user. Give the admin previlage to the guest user.

chmod 700 /etc/suders

vi /etc/sudoers

add below line

oracle ALL=(ALL) ALL

Then save it.

chmod 440 /etc/sudoers

Changing ownership for the binaries

chown -R oracle:oracle

changing ownership for file

chown oracle:oracle
