The steps involved in planning a UMTS HSPA network aredescribed below:
1. Open an new radio-planning document
- Creating a new a new Atoll document
2. Configure the network by adding network elements and changing parametersin the Site template.
You can add and modify the following elements of base stations:
3. Carry out basic coverage predictions [ to understand the rough coverage of 3GNodeB sites under not defined user load conditions ]
-Making a Detailed Analysis (for pixel to pixel level of accuracy in quantitativefigures) to Study the Profiles of various pixels on the map by using PointAnalysis tool in the radio tool bar
or
-Studying Signal Level Coverage by Calculating Coverage by Transmitter /Signal / Overlapping zones prediction
4. Allocate neighbours through planning by physical observation in the mapwindow
- Go to Data tab in Explorer window right click Transmitters CellsNeighbours Automatic Allocation
- Check the intra technology neighbours list in Explorer window right click Transmitters Cells Neighbours. If the automatic allocated list will not besufficient for proper handovers, then add the neighbours manually in the Intratechnology neighbours by pressing * button in the table.
5. Before making more advanced coverage predictions, you need to define cell
load conditions. You can define cell load conditions in the following ways:
- You can generate realistic cell load conditions by creating a simulation basedon a traffic map
Studying Network Capacity:
a) Defining Multi-service Traffic Data
Data tab UMTS parameters Services HSDPA Define required loadconditions as below

b) Creating a Traffic Map
Go to Geo tab right click Traffic new map First create a map per sector by giving the user load values
Then create a map per user density

d) Analysing the Results of a Simulation
- Making an AS Analysis of Simulation Resultso Click the point analysis button available on radio tool bar for
detailedcoverage analysis
- Making Coverage Predictions Using Simulation Resultso making a pilot reception analysiso making a coverage prediction on the downlink service areao making a coverage prediction on the uplink service areao making a effective service area analysis

6. Make UMTS-specific coverage predictions using the defined cell loadconditions.
Studies to be performed: Making a Pilot Signal Quality Prediction
Studying Service Area (EbNt) Downlink or Uplink
Studying Effective Service Area
Noise studies:
Calculating Pilot Pollution
Handover study:
Making a Handover Status Coverage Prediction
Go to Predictions Pilot Reception Analysis Select Load Conditions Selectany of the Simulations like below:
Note: Select "(Cells Table)" fromLoad Conditions
. In this case, the coverageprediction is not going to be based on load conditions taken from a simulation.

Atoll will calculate the coverage prediction using the UL load factor and the DLtotal power defined in the cell properties.
7. Allocate scrambling codes & then perform Scrambling code Interferenceanalysis
