Stepping Into Internship Program - Position Description The Australian Network on Disability’s Stepping Into program is a paid internship scheme that matches talented university students with disability with roles in leading Australian businesses. Position Title Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment - Legislative Reform and Assessment Policy Administration Officer Location Canberra, Adelaide or Brisbane Position Duration A minimum of 152 hours, or 4 weeks’ full-time equivalent Position Overview The Compliance Division manages biosecurity and imported food risks by establishing and undertaking effective compliance approaches in line with the department's Biosecurity compliance statement and regulatory responsibilities across the department's portfolio. Compliance Division also undertakes enforcement functions for the department across all its regulatory jurisdictions. The Compliance Policy Branch is responsible for managing the framework that sets out how the department uses arrangements with other trade and commerce participants across its portfolio legislation. The branch also develop and implement approved arrangements domestically and internationally under the Biosecurity Act 2015 and administers the Imported Food Control Act 1992 through provision of policy, risk management, technical support and stakeholder engagement. Legislative Reform and Assessment Policy (LRAP) section supports and influences the strategic objectives of trade modernisation, risk based approaches and safeguarding Australian agricultural industries through system and process improvements. Position Overview

The Compliance Division manages biosecurity and imported food risks by establishing and undertaking effective compliance approaches in line with the department's Biosecurity compliance statement and regulatory responsibilities across the department's portfolio. Comprising four teams: we review and amend key legislation that underpin our role as a regulator; we develop import assessment policies and lead governance and assurance initiatives for import document assessment; we lead innovative solutions for certification of imports and administer certain classes of approved arrangements; and we lead the expansion and ongoing support of the AEPCOMM program.

We are looking for applicants who are flexible and proactive, possess a strong attention to detail, are good communicators and have a high level of integrity and commitment to completing allocated tasks. They will contribute ideas to the development of work area goals, have the ability to work effectively in a team and will work under guidance to complete tasks.

The role will be tailored to suit the individual working in either, developing policy and business requirements for information systems delivering Government priorities or in the ongoing development of policies and procedures to support the delivery of Assessment Policy for

biosecurity. The section has a number of critical projects the individual will be able to make a key contribution to dependent on their skills, knowledge and interests.

The key duties of the position may include:

Provide administration support for some of the sections projects and regulatory processes.

Assist in the development of communication and related material to support the expansion of the department’s electronic certification for imports.

Contribute to the improvement of processing procedures under s146 of the Biosecurity Act 2015.

Contribute to Sharepoint review and development.

Contribute to and assist with statistics and data entry and analysis.

Respond to requests for routine information from clients.

Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree
