SWOOCH (MATH GAME)

According to Gever Tully of the Tinkering School, we should encourage our Children to throw objects much like the cave men needed to throw spears in order to catch their prey. His research has shown that the Brains frontal lobe is associated with movement, reasoning, and problem solving. Aiming and throwing an object activates this area of the brain. Once this area is activated it is better able to deal with problem solving much like problems that may be presented in Mathematics. I decided to invent a game that could be played in the school classroom, It would incorporate both throwing an object and solving mathematic problems. Many schools now have Smartboards installed in the classroom. Through some online research I discovered that there are some types of balls that can active interface buttons on the Smartboard. This is the premise on which I have developed the Swooch game.

WHAT’S THE RUSH

A short film for the Drink Aware competition, this is a day in the life of a young man walking the streets of Limerick. Everyone on the street keeps trying to get the man to hurry up but he pays them no attention. The idea of the piece is that you would not let anybody rush you in everyday life so why would you let them rush you in the pub.The film won 3rd price in the national competition.

SANZEN APPLICIATON

Sanzen is the Buddhist word for going to a Zen Master for instruction. The aim of the Sanzen project is to provide an alternative method to practice the art of meditation. This project takes a gamification approach to transport the user to a serene setting. Here the user is instructed on various meditation techniques and given accurate feedback on their progress using state of the art technology in the form of EEG monitoring.

Website & Unity Game

Sanzen is an interactive learning environment consisting of two components.

1. Sanzen website gives information on the product and allows the user to download the application.2. Sanzen Unity application provides the user with an interactive environment where they can practice meditation. The user can be immersed into the environment by wearing an Oculus Rift headset. An EPOC+ EEG headset can be worn to track the user’s progress while practicing meditation.

The Sanzen website is a Java web application developed using the Netbean’s IDE, MVC architecture and Bootstrap front-end framework.

The Sanzen application was developed in Unity3D 4.6.1 using JavaScript and C# programming languages. The Oculus Rift and EPOC+ plugins have been integrated with the software.
