Four Time Champs! Congratulations to all our participants in the Apple Harvest Festival Y Cup Road Race! For
the fourth year in a row Plantsville School was named the winner of the Y Cup and it has returned to Plantsville
to be showcased as an example of our hard work and dedication. I would like to thank the students for all their
efforts. As well, a huge thank you to Mrs. Myers and Mr. Lalla for their leadership and dedication to our student
runners!
We are looking for a volunteer to do some basic sewing at Plantsville. If you are interested, please
contact Mrs. Myers at [email protected] Materials and direction will be provided if
you are able to assist. We greatly appreciate any help that you may be able to provide.
As a reminder, when dropping your children off in the morning, please pull your car all the way to the top of the
sidewalk. For the most part, this is taking place. However, there is an enormous amount of drop off traffic and a
very small loop to do so.
On behalf of the entire staff of Plantsville School, I wish all our families a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with joy
and happiness with friends and family!

For parents with busy schedules, it can be hard to make sure that kids are eating a healthy breakfast before
they go to school in the morning.
Sometimes children aren’t hungry right after waking up, and it’s hard to find food they like to eat that is
also healthy. Also, some kids refuse breakfast at home but are hungry when they arrive at school. At school,
we have a great breakfast program for all students.
If morning meals are difficult for your family, let the
School Breakfast Program help you out!

Weather Cancellations
· Southington Public Schools posts school cancellations on our website. Go to
www.southingtonschools.org and it will appear as a pop-up on your screen. It is also
posted on all major news channels and several radio stations.
· If school is dismissed early due to weather, a phone call and email will
be generated through our School Messenger system and sent to you. Email
addresses are collected at the beginning of each year with the demographic
update form. If you change your email address or phone number, please notify
the office.
· If afterschool/evening activities are cancelled–an email will be sent out. Please
try to have a strategy in place in the event an early dismissal is called.

Southington School Health Council Report
“Fit, Healthy and Ready to Learn”
CDC: Preventing the Flu: Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs
Unlike the common cold, it is possible to vaccinate against the flu virus. Discuss the flu
vaccine with your healthcare provider.
The single best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health
habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of
germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu. There also are flu antiviral drugs that
can be used to treat and prevent the flu.
1. Avoid close contact. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick,
keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
2. Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands
when you are sick. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.
3. Cover your mouth and nose. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing
or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
4. Clean your hands. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap
and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person
touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose,
or mouth.
HUSKY Health is the State of Connecticut’s public health coverage
