p l a n n i n g Harumi Suzuki of Harumi Signature Weddings & Events was hired to provide full-service planning for the August 10, 2013 wedding. Stephanie had a clear vision for the look of the celebration and worked closely with Harumi to make her wedding dreams a reality.

f a s h i o n n o t e s Stephanie chose a mermaid-style wedding gown by Mark Zunino from Kleinfeld Bridal in New York.

“It was truly a masterpiece, handcrafted and sent straight from Spain,” says Stephanie of the design. All of her jewellery, including her bohemian-inspired crystal headpiece was also purchased at Kleinfeld Bridal.

Her diamond engagement ring was designed by Kim Helman of Rare Investment and her two wedding bands (a traditional wedding band and a knuckle ring) were designed by Simon Yaghdjian of Astranova Jewellery. The diamond knuckle band was a surprise wedding gift from Petar. He purchased it to replace a small silver one that Stephanie had been wearing for months leading up to the wedding. “It is so beautiful and always catches the eye of people I meet,” she says of the gift.

The bridesmaids wore floor-length, off-white dresses from BCBG. Petar wore a Black by Vera Wang tuxedo.

After getting ready at her family home in Deep Cove, Stephanie had a surprise for her bridesmaids! The bride and her attendants were transported to downtown Vancouver in a fourteen-seat plane provided by Harbour Air Seaplanes.

The wedding ceremony took place at the Reflections Outdoor Restaurant & Lounge at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Guests were welcomed to the outdoor lounge with a glass of champagne. Cocktail tables featured stacks of vintage books that had been hand-painted white and gold for the occasion. The whimsical books (with love-related titles) were utilized throughout the wedding decor, topped with individual flowers from Special Moments Flowers and Gifts.

A unique wet-bar set up at the outdoor lounge featured lemon water, moist towels, and wooden fans to help everyone beat the summer heat.

Stephanie was accompanied down the aisle by her brother, actor Devon Sawa. The aisle was marked with hundreds of rose petals in shades of pink. A string quartet from Musical Occasions performed during the ceremony.

The couple exchanged vows in front of a magnificent cedar arbour, built by a friend of Stephanie’s mother. The structure came to life with a mix of vintage books, moss and hanging floral arrangements. “It was incredible,” says Stephanie, when describing the beautiful arbour.

Chandi Nicholson and Lauren Sabo of Special Moments Flowers and Gifts designed all of the floral for the event, including the bride’s stunning bouquet composed of soft pink roses wrapped in silver tassels.

w h i m s i c a l d e t a i l s The reception was held in the grand ballroom at the Terminal City Club.

Dining tables were covered with ivory linens from Salmon’s Rentals while rosette fabric from Proline Trading was used to cover the tops of silver Chiavari chairs. Low floral centrepieces with cream and pink blooms accented with greenery were placed at each table. Place settings included silver-beaded charger plates from Art of the Party Design Inc. topped

with custom menus designed by Jody Prouse, who created all of the day-of stationery.

A lounge area with white furniture and pink uplighting was provided by Loungeworks. Large floating balloons from The Balloonery completed the dreamy, whimsical look of the celebration. The balloons were weighted down with stacks of vintage love story books.

Stephanie’s father sadly passed away from cancer during the wedding planning process and it was extremely important to the couple to honour him on their wedding day. The airplane transportation, for Stephanie, was significant in this regard.

“I consider my father my guardian angel and this way I was able to be closer to him and have him fly with me to the wedding.”

Even the couple’s floral-filled ceremony was conceptualized as a nod to her dad—an avid gardener. “I wanted an outdoor space that I know he would have loved and I think we created it that day,” says Stephanie. After the ceremony, the custom

arbour was disassembled and rebuilt in the backyard of her family’s home. “Now every time I am there I can sit under the outdoor structure in my dad's beautiful garden.” In lieu of favors a donation was made to the BC Cancer Foundation.

h o n e y m o o n The couple followed their wedding with a three-week honeymoon in Greece and Croatia. “It was a very luxurious honeymoon—we enjoyed good food, amazing weather and we rode up and down the coast of Croatia in a convertible!”

Ganache Patisserie created the cream-coloured wedding cake decorated with fresh flowers. The cake was placed at a sweet table accompanied with desserts created by the Terminal City Club.

DJ Leanne from Girl on Wax spun music for the event. In keeping with their own tradition—Chris Witoski sang

“Marry Me” by Train for the couple once again as they shared their first dance. “He has sung to us throughout all of our happiest milestones together,” says Stephanie. Love Story Media captured the performance on film.
