STEPUP MINISTRY

Samson heard about StepUp from a friend and enrolled in the Employment Week Program at StepUp. After grad-uating, he landed a job in landscaping. Immediately after finding employment, Samson and his son Malachi started StepUp’s Life Skills Program. Samson was encouraged that he was not alone as a single parent; that there was a loving, structured community that could support his goals.

Malachi also began attending the Children’s Program where he was provided homework help, budgeting skills, and a group of friends. Malachi also enjoyed the dinners and games. When he grows up, Malachi would like to be a police officer or firefighter.

“StepUp made me feel like a new person, transformed,” says Samson.

He built confidence and momentum towards his personal goals of going to school, building a career, and supporting his son. To that end, StepUp provided a scholarship to Samson so he could attend Wake Tech with the goal of graduating with a Computer Networking degree. He is currently enrolled in night class.

When Samson is not working, he likes to attend Toastmasters with the StepUp Alumni group. He can also be found taking Malachi to football practice and helping him with schoolwork.

Samson’s message for volunteers, donors, and employers is simple, “You are a blessing. What you are doing is a blessing. Thank you. Please continue supporting StepUp.”
