Part 1: Getting Ready Creating the playlist in iTunes is like creating a

folder to store your interviews.

1. Open iTunes

2. Click on File and then New Playlist

Double click on this icon in your Dock

3. Your playlist will appear under ‘Playlists’ and will be highlighted ready for you to type

in the name.

4. Name the playlist by period. Example: Period 1

5. Repeat the steps for each period.

Now you have your ‘folders’ (Playlists) created in iTunes.

You are now ready to get your ‘cassettes’ ready to interview your students in GarageBand.

This is where you will actually conduct the interviews.

9. Then click ‘Choose’.

When you create your first project in GB, it looks

1. Delete the default tracks

a. Click in the first track to select it

Then click on ‘Create’

4. Click on ‘No Effects’

It will become highlighted so you can change the name. Type in the name of your first student.

Sometimes you have to click a couple of times to highlight the text in the track box. Take your time.

Your laptops have internal built-in mics. As you talk, you will see the volume here.

Speak at a normal level—not too loud (the recording will be muffled) or too soft.Watch the “health” of your recoding by monitoring the wave forms in the trackeditor (bottom of the screen). Adjust the distance of the mic accordingly.

Recording1. When you are ready to begin the interview, click on the red record button. Count to 2 in your head and begin

talking.

2. To stop, press the space bar on your

keyboard.

To delete your recording, click on the recording, then press ‘delete’ on your keyboard.

1. Make sure Student is selected

2. Click ‘Share’, then ‘Send Song to iTunes...’

1. The iTunes Playlist is what Period this student is in.

2. The Artist Name is the name of the student you just interviewed.

3. The Composer Name is YOUR name (name of Teacher).

4. The Album Name is your class, French 2 or Spanish 2.

Leave the rest of the info the same.

5. Click ‘Share’.

Before you begin recording your second interview...

1. The second student is selected/highlighted.

2. You have muted the first interview.

Click on the button to mute.

Notice how Lisa’s recording is grayed out.
