DESIGN & EXPERTISEOur sales and design functions are equipped with the latest technology systems available. Utilising3D CAD software, combined with communication and IT systems, we are able to provide ourcustomers with a rapid response to enquiries and orders. Designing with 3D systems also allowsfor easy design verification prior to fabrication. We continue to invest in our design andfabrication facilities with plant, equipment, high speed automatic laser cutting equipment andsoftware.

CHAS is the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme. Managed by London Borough of Merton it assessesthe Health and Safety element of pre-qualification. It ensures that we comply to the Health and Safety at Work Act1974 and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

Constructionline is a register of approved suppliers who have been assessed on their financial standing, technicalreferences, environmental policy, quality systems and insurance details. We as a member believe it helps to reducesthe need for filling in and assessing pre-qualification forms which saves you the buyer time and money.

CSCS is the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. It was set up to improve quality and reduce accidents in theconstruction industry. All our installers carry a CSCS card and have undertaken the Operative Health and Safety Test.

Building Confidence is quickly becoming recognised as the standard for supplier excellence within the industry. Majorcontractors are using the service to evaluate their supply chains, drive up performance and forge longer lastingrelationships with key suppliers.

Safe Contractor is a health and safety assessment and accreditation scheme, with more than 160 major companies andalmost 18,000 contractor from a wide range of professional disciplines working within a number of industry sectors.

Secured by Design is the official UK Police flagship initiative supporting the principles of 'designing out crime'. SBD isa holistic approach bringing together 'designing out crime' with physical security.

Utilities Vender Database Achilles operates the UVDB supplier management service on behalf of all the major UKutility organisations. By registering and pre-qualifying with this service Steelway are part of an industry-wide schemeand as such are searchable by all the Utility Sector buying organisations that subscribe to the system.

Steelway offer a full project management and installation service on the full range ofproducts, which we design and manufacture. These include access metalwork, fencingproducts, security kiosks, cages, specialist fabrications and access covers and frames.

We install our products throughout the United Kingdom and can offer projectmanagement support for overseas projects.

We have many years’ experience in installing our products in defence establishments,airports, prisons, water utilities, railways, telecommunications infrastructure, powergeneration facilities including nuclear and general construction projects.

The project management and installation team are based at our Wolverhamptonmanufacturing plant. This highly experienced and trained team consists of a Project SiteOperations Manager supported by specific project managers, framework projectmanagers, installation managers who are backed up by site supervisors and fullyequipped and trained installation teams.

Our involvement on individual projects can last from 1 day to 2 years and we haveworked on projects up to the value of £2.5million. However, most large projects take 6to 12 weeks to reach completion and have values between £100k to £250k. We offera full turnkey project installation service including: site plant and craneage, full siteinstallation survey, backed up by site specific risk assessments, method statements andsite handover documentation provided as standard practice.

We are fully committed to the safe installation of all our products and have beenawarded the Platinum Standard for our commitment to CSCS membership. We are alsoaccredited to the Safe Contractor scheme. Steelway offer customers extensive knowledge and experience in the designmanufacture and installation of staircases, fire escapes, and access platforms forindustrial and commercial environments. Where required, our engineers will visitthe site of a proposed installation, then prepare schemes for access, storage, orfire emergency use. These proposals are then submitted to the customer forapproval. Upon receipt of an order, 3D Designs are produced to the mostexacting requirements to ensure stability and durability.

Steelway upstanding access covers and frames are designed for use on a varietyof projects containing chambers that are opening frequently and are not subject tovehicular traffic. The Steelway range of flush fitting access covers and frames include the uniqueStamp-Lock locking device as standard. Thames Water - Honor Oak New Pumping Station Shaft

The existing Honor Oak reservoir was built in the early 1900’s. The reservoir wassupplied with water from various sources. The purpose of this project was to enablewater to be directly drawn from the Thames Water ring main at Brixton, which was4.7 kilometres away.

A shaft 60 metres deep by 11 metres in diameter was constructed to enable atunnel-boring machine to drive a tunnel to Brixton and connect it to the ThamesWater ring main. When the tunnel was complete, the Honor Oak shaft was fittedout to become a new shaft pumping station, which enabled water from the ringmain to be directly pumped into the Honor Oak reservoir.

Our involvement in the project was to design, manufacture, install and commissionaccess metalwork to facilitate access and the services from top of the shaft to thebottom.

The project required critical interface with all the services, ducting, piping,mechanical and electrical work. By using the project 3D model of the shaft andservices, we were able using our own 3D Inventor design suite to interfaceaccurately our access metalwork to all the other facilities. We designed a multi flightstaircase with intermediate main platforms and associated structural supportsteelwork. The installation interface was also critical to the project enabling othercontractors to use our access metalwork to access their areas of work and fit out.There were critical phases, where 24-hour onsite installation was required over aseveral week period to meet project completion dates.

Afan WwTW

Our client was providing a sludge digester solution for the Welsh WaterAlliance, at Afan WwTW near the coast at Port Talbot. Part of theirscheme included two large sludge digester tanks.

Our brief was to provide safe access from ground level to the top of thetwo 20 metre high x 18 metre diameter tanks. Steelway designed,manufactured and installed a set of cantilevered open mesh staircases,handrails and necessary landings, all to meet the Welsh Waterspecification.

Near the top of the two tanks, we also provided a structural platformsuitable to support a 9.3 tonne sludge draw off tank. To the perimeter atthe top level of both 18 metre diameter tanks, we supplied and installedtriple line handrails complete with wire mesh infill panels. To the groundlevel of both tanks, we manufactured and installed wire mesh lockableenclosures to deter un-authorised access to the stairs.

The project required a close working relationship between ourselves andour customer, the tanks included numerous tensioning cables within theirconstruction, we needed to ensure all fixings supporting our stairs etc.did not clash with these.

The scheme was completed on time and to the satisfaction of our clientand the Welsh Water Alliance.
