    The system combines Stramit® structuralmembers with Steel-MAX posts,brackets and accessories. The design anddelivery process has been rationalised toensure best possible customer service.

    Quick design and quote. It’s easyto get a quick design and quote foryour project. Just e-mail or post yourdimensioned job plans, with your contactdetails and any special instructions toany Stramit branch or distributor.

    What we require for the design. Include a clear and complete copy ofyour architectural plans, to provide the

    designer with an accurate overview ofthe job. We need to know exactly whatyou are building and how big it is, so themore information you provide, the moreaccurate the quote.

    Include dimensions, loadings,specifications, soil tests, and any otherdata available, including existing floorframing designs.

    Individual designs. Because eachfloor is individually designed, we can

    use a wide variety of design solutions toaccommodate almost any application.

    Variations and adjustments can be madeeasily and quickly after you receive thePreliminary Assessment Design.

    How long will it take? The initialdesign and quotation process will take just a few working days. After ordering,allow a few more working days for finalconstruction details and engineering.

    Once complete, delivery to site is quick

    and efficient.DIY friendly. Your individual steelflooring package is easy to install. It’s aDIY-friendly system, specifically designedfor your individual project.

    It comes complete with eithertelescopically adjustable or screwadjustable Steel-MAX stumps, Stramit® “C” bearers and joists, cut to lengthwhere possible, and Steel-MAXconnector brackets and fixings. It canalso include large steel beams, supportposts and subfloor bracing, whereneeded, to complete the system.

    You receive individual job certification ifrequired, as well as installation guides.

    Quick to install. Bearers and joists canbe pre-cut to length, speeding installationand saving on waste and valuable time on

    site. Posts are supplied in stock lengths,for cutting to size on site.

    The long-spanning steel members helpsave on footings, and can open the sub-floor below for other use.

    Certification. Optional engineer’s

    certificate can be issued by Steel-MAX,based on the information available atthe time. The certification is for the steelfloor system only; it does not includefootings or any other structural elementabove or below the floor frame.

    Corrosion protection. The systemcomponents are manufactured fromcorrosion protected steel. All Stramit® bearers and joists have a Z350 coating.This means they will stand up to mostenvironments, except for the most

    steel floor framing system, which is a complete and individually

    certified* solution.

    The system is not suitable forapplications closer than 300 metresto the coast or where it is exposed tocorrosive elements and/or fallout fromheavy industrial environments or similar.

    Where extra protection is needed,

    Stramit®

     bearers and joists manufacturedfrom special ZAM® coated steel can beused in conjunction with Steel-MAX’sstandard Dacrotized® fittings andhot-dip galvanised stump tube, to forma very long lasting and corrosionresistant structure.

    Further protection can be achievedby painting the members with arubberized metal primer such as WattlePermaChlor ® PR30 or equivalent.

    Warning: CCA or similar treated timbershould not be used where it is in contactwith zinc-coated steel.

    If this does occur, sufficient full surfacetreatment will be necessary to all steelmembers to protect them against theleaching of copper on to zinc coatingsand to protect against other potentiallycorrosive elements contained in thetreated timber.

    Termite protection. Steel framingcomplies with the Australian Standard

    Termite Code AS3660.1. The clear andclean surface of the steel membersexposes the trails of termites forinspection and treatment wherenecessary.

    Fire protection. Steel is naturally fireresistant and non-combustible, but theflooring system can also be designedto incorporate fire resistant insulationproducts to comply with BAL (BushfireAttack Level) and energy efficiencyrequirements of the BCA and local

    regulations.

    Fixing flooring to steel joists. Stripand sheet flooring can be gun-nailedor screw-fixed to the steel joists, inconjunction with appropriate adhesives.

    If required, timber battens can be fixedto the tops of joists, for hand-nailing ofdecking or decorative flooring. Detailsare included in the Installation Guide.

    Cutting steel framing members. Post and stump tube is supplied in

    8m stock lengths for cutting on site.All channel bearers and joists aresupplied pre-cut where possible. Thiskeeps the need for site cutting to aminimum.

    Where cutting is necessary, use specialburr-free cold cutting saws. Drop sawsand hand-held circular saws with metalcutting disc blades are also suitable.

    Components. Floor frames compriseStramit “C” channel bearers or RHS

    bearers and channel joists, supported onSteel-MAX stumps.

    All connections are Tek screw fixed,using Steel-MAX connector brackets,which are specially designed for thesystem.

    Joist sections used in floor designs areavailable in various depths to suit therequired loads and spans. Hot-rolledsteel beams and sub-floor bracing arenot part of the standard offer, but canbe supplied on special order to designsby others.

    All members, fittings and fixings includedin each specific job application arecovered by the system certification forthat job.

    Installation. Refer to the separateInstallation Guide for constructiondetails.

    Special loads and design criteria. Each floor framing system is individuallydesigned to suit each job. This caninclude domestic and light commercialload applications, incorporating variouswind and snow loads, as well as heavyfloor loads.

    Designs comply with the requirementsof the BCA. Individual design of eachflooring system means that the designcriteria can be varied to suit each project.

    The system is not limited to domestic orresidential applications and each job isassessed independently.

    Light industrial and commercial floorswith special load requirements, suchas mezzanines, schools, offices, gymsand parking can easily be designed asrequired.

    The system is very versatile and can be adapted to most domestic, light commercialand mezzanine applications. The system is ideal for free-standing structures, brickveneer, brick or block base and masonry walled buildings.

    Mezzanine floors

    Each floor is individually designed to suit the load and spanning requirements.Large steel beams are often used as primary bearers to achieve maximum spansfor usable areas below mezzanines.

    Mezzanine flooring system comprising Stramit® in-plane floor framing andSteel-MAX stumps with moment base plates.

    Moment base plates

    Steel-MAX Moment Base Fittings have a moment value of 5.2 kNm. They are used onsupport posts to help distribute heavy loads and to provide extra bracing to minimisethe need for cross-bracing, which may obstruct access below mezzanines.

    Steel-MAX special 16mm cross-bracing can be used in conjunction with 89-90mmmezzanine support posts, to provide up to 22kN of bracing value per set.

    Decks and verandahs are easily built as either stand-alone structures or connected tonew or existing buildings. Verandahs and decks may be stepped down as needed.

    Verandah posts can be fixed as stumps below to platform level, or posts can continueup to rail or roof height.

    Joists Joists

    Most floor frames are designed with the floor joists running in-plane between thecentre intermediate bearers and the outer end bearers. In-plane systems are also usedfor decks and other applications where minimum framing depth is required.

    In some cases RHS outer beams are more appropriate, e.g., for larger spans or fortransportable homes, where hot rolled beams provide the strength needed for liftingand transportation.

    Footings

    Footings are site specific and will vary for each job, depending on soil conditions, windand structure loads and so on.

    Footings must be designed independently by your own local engineer, based onspecific site knowledge. They are NOT included in the floor system design offer.

    Note: All footing designs and base anchor connections to be designed and certifiedby others. Optional footing design suggestions are available for deep reactive soil

    conditions.

    Sub-floor bracing

    As with footings, sub-floor bracing is designed for on site conditions. They will alsovary depending on the stump connections to the footings, as stumps cast into thefootings will need less bracing than stumps fixed to the top of the footings.

    Sub-floor bracing must be designed independently by your own local engineer, basedon the footing design and specific site knowledge. Steel-MAX M12 Cross-Bracing setsprovide up to 15kN capacity.

    Although bracing system components can be supplied, they are based on designsby others. Footing and sub-floor bracing designs are not included in the floor systemdesign offer.
