Fraud AlertCOVID-19 Related Scams Following on from advice given in the April bullen, below is an overview of other scams which are unfortunately being used to commit financial crime at this me: Buying and selling Watch out for scammers exploing the demand for things like face masks, Covid-19 test kits and hand saniser by selling fake or non-existent products online. Only use sites you trust and be wary of requests to pay via bank transfer Doorstep Fraud There is a rising incidence of fraudsters targeng the vulnerable, offering to do shopping or other odd jobs. This may seem like a genuine act of kindness, but fraudsters are taking money or cards and not returning. Only accept help from friends, neighbours or those you know and trust. Make sure vulnerable relaves and friends are aware of these risks NHS Scams Also beware of anybody impersonang HMRC and offering goodwill payments to NHS staff Stay safe and protect yourself by staying a step ahead of the fraudsters. Orston Garden Club 833 Bus Service Due to Coronavirus we are having to reduce our service. Buses will connue to operate all day on Mondays to Saturdays, but you may need to contact us by telephone on 0115 777 3187 to book your journey. Book anyme, but please be aware that you may have to wait up to 30 minutes for your bus to arrive. Alternavely, book in advance for a specific me. From the start of service up to and including the 09.38 journey: The service will operate normally. Catch your bus at your normal bus stop. From 10.00 unl 15.00: If you wish to travel anywhere on the route, including Bingham, book as above. From the 15.07 journey unl the end of service: Buses will depart from Bingham, Market Place at XX.07 and XX.38 minutes past each hour. They will operate on a drop- off only basis, on request only. If you wish to board in Bingham, Market Place then pre-booking is not required; simply speak to the driver as you board and tell them where you wish to go. If you wish to board anywhere else along the route (including any of the villages), please book as above. This will be transmied on Facebook Live on the Orston VillageFacebook Page and we hope that as many villagers as possible will be able to join in on the day, whilst respecng the governments guidelines on social distancing and self-isolang. Before the day itself we will be supplying every household with a goodie bag containing treats and items/ideas to turn Orston into a warme village celebrang the end of the war. We would love you to dress your houses up for the occasion with tape at the windows, supplied in the bag, and lots of Union Jacks either as bunng or however you feel you would like to express your thanks to all those brave people who sacrificed so much to secure the freedom we have today. Lets show everyone we can celebrate the day while still staying at home! We understand that not everyone is on social media, especially some of our senior villagers, and a suggeson has been made to lend laptops, already logged in, to those unable to source Facebook. However, this would only be possible if they had an internet signal. Lets all be conscious of those around us, who may already feel isolated while living on their own, and try to find ways to include them. Friday 8th May 2020 (Bank Holiday) (To run in conjuncon with naonal VE Day celebraons.) 10.00am Play warme music on village Green, which will have a display of photos from around the village, now and then. These will be part of the FaceTime display broadcast during the day so you can view them at home as they are happening. This will remain in place over the weekend so please observe social distancing when viewing on your daily walk (subject to weather). 2.30pm Commence FaceTime live broadcast from within the village– Showing pictures of Orston now and then and a video of the village with VE Day decoraons. 2.45pm Will Gunn to introduce the days events on FaceTime live and to prepare you to prime your glass ready for the toast. 2.55pm The Last Postand Reveilleare broadcast on FaceTime live and from within the village, on a PA system. 3.00pm Pipers Playing of Bales Oerand the VE Day Marchwill be broadcast on FaceTime live and from within the village, on a PA system. Then we can all stand and raise a toast from our gardens while the Naons Toast to the Heroes of WWIIwill be read out – The toast is - For those that gave so much, we thank you.This will be the first me such a tribute has ever taken place so please join in from your own homes. 3.05pm Announcement of start of tea pares/picnics around the village, either in your front garden, front door, drive or elsewhere as long as you can sll follow social distancing advice and ensure everyone remains safe. Photographers will be going around the village to get photos of your fesvies, but it would be great if you could also take some selfies to post on the Orston Village Facebook page so we can all share in the fun. 6.50pm Our Vicar will read The Cry for Peace Around the World’, broadcast on FaceTime live and from within the village, on a PA system. You are also encouraged to read it out for yourself if you so wish. The words are printed in the Bullen. 7.00pm Ringing out for Peace, this cannot take place as bell ringers cannot get together, however Orston have solved this by transming the bells ringing on the PA system. 8.00pm We will be broadcasng the lighng of the beacon on FaceTime whilst playing Imagineby John Lennon, to be followed by applause throughout the village for NHS, care and key workers, too numerous to menon, who keep our country running. Then a minutes silence will be announced to remember the fallen and those we have lost to Covid 19 before ending the day with the Naonal Anthem. We have experience of eding books, wring, journalism, and so on, so we could offer assistance (over the net, e.g. WhatsApp) to the would-be writers of Orston.
