This is your time.

But we don’t want you to have to waste it trying to figure out the ins and outs of campus. Capital is great, but there are some things you’ll want to avoid. There are also hidden gems that you’ll want to know about.

We want to help you find those. It will still take time for you to decide what your favorite spots on campus are, but here’s a guide to get you started.

And even if the idea of exploring isn’t appealing, do it to get free crepes. Find out how on the next page.

1. Main Street & Miscellaneous

Make a visit to each of the dorms. When the housing lottery comes, you’ll be happy you did

Use the phrase “CapFam” sparingly

Don’t walk Livingston alone—ever

Get Cap Student discounts at: Peking Dynasty, The Drexel, Brueg-ger’s, Penn Station, Jimmy John’s, and Subway

2. Gate:

Walk in the gate as a freshman

DON’T walk out of the gate until you graduate

Use the bathrooms in Yochum. They’re huge and usually deserted

7. Schaaf Lawn

Don’t be a tool by tanning on Schaaf lawn

8. Student Union

Weekend Early Birds: check out the Cru Club breakfast from 7-11 a.m. on the weekends Avoid the MDR from 2 to 4 p.m.—unless you

want sandwiches and old soup

Don’t call the Cru Club “One Main Café”

3. Blackmore Library

Check out the library during exam week; they serve free coffee

Check out the Schumacher Gallery—get cultured!

4. Troutman/Kerns/Cap Center

Actually study at some point. The best places are: the Troutman lounge, Kerns, Moe Lounge (on the second floor of the Cap Center), the Mezz when it’s not open

5. Saylor-Ackermann Hall

Don’t get coffee from the Cru Brew right after class gets out—it’s always packed

Dear Seal Stepper,Well, unfortunately you’re going to be

kicked out of Capital, your financial aid

will be removed and…I’m kidding, of course!

Stepping on the seal is not a big deal at all!

That’s mostly just a standard “tradition” used

by tour guides when showing potential students

the school.

Being superstitious about things on campus is

fun to a point, but it shouldn’t be interfering in

your social life. So you stepped on the seal? Oh

well. If anyone chooses to not talk to you because

of it, that’s entirely their problem. I wouldn’t fret

over it. It’s impossible to try and control others’

emotions, so there’s no need to worry about them

either. I wish you the best of luck on your future

exams (I’m sure you won’t fail them!). And don’t

forget, you can always rub Luther’s head to

counteract the seal stepping! Cappy

I’m a freshman, and I accidentally stepped on the seal in front of the library!

I know that the threat of failing an exam is just made up voodoo-talk to scare freshies, but I’m worried that somebody saw what I did and will think that I don’t care about Capital—but I do care about Capital! I just know how seriously everyone takes the “don’t step on the seal” stuff, and I don’t want my little misstep to ruin my undergraduate career. Please help! Seal Stepper

Ask Cappy:

Your voice matters.

During your time in college, you will have concerns and criticisms.

“Ask Cappy” is where we give you a voice and have our mascot, Cappy, write back and give advice.

Send a letter with your issue to P.O. Box 1234 in the campus post office, and Cappy might answer it in the next issue of Status Quo.

Dear piSSed-off parker, I hear you! The parking situation at Capital

has gotten out of hand, especially considering

the number of students Capital accepts.

I won’t be able to tell you if Capital plans on taking

care of the parking situation next year, but I can of-

fer some other options. There is a great parking lot

across the street from Jeni’s that is relatively close

to campus. I know several commuter students who

choose to park there instead of buying a parking pass.

That would give you a nice morning and evening walk

to campus, while also saving you a couple of bucks.

There’s also street parking available around the

perimeter of campus. This could be a good option,

but may still take some time to find a parking spot.

I hope that your parking endeavors are solved soon!

Cappy

I’m so sick and tired of the parking situation!

Every morning I have to drive from my house in Reynoldsburg to campus (often a 20-30 min-ute commute) only to find that it takes another 10 minutes to find a parking space. I want to know if Capital plans on doing anything about the parking situation next year, because it’s just getting ridiculous.
