Status of the ARRA Evaluation

• Evaluation Plan is complete. – One more round of surveys and utility data

collection, focus on PY10– Targeted evaluations of WIPP and SERC– Other studies: persistence of energy savings,

assessment of under- and over-performers, social network analysis

• Information Collection Request has been submitted to OMB for approval. Projecting an early winter start date for data collection.

Indoor Air Quality Findings

• Carbon Monoxide– No homes exhibited peak ambient CO problems

• Radon– 4% of site-built homes went from below EPA

threshold (4 pC/L) pre-wx to above post-wx• Formaldehyde– Net increase of 5.1 ppb post-wx in mobile homes

• Temperature – Virtually no change in settings post-wx

Occupant Survey Findings*

• Occupants’ reported home temps– Winter: 51% comfortable; 36% cold; 9% very cold– Summer: 62% comfortable; 25% hot; 8% very hot

• Occupants’ report health– Asthma: 21% reported; of these 11% ER visits last

12 months– Physical health not good last 30 days: 45%– Mental health not good last 30 days: 34%
