RPC PRODUCTION

• Production plan for OPERA: October 1rst

• Delayed 1 month in cooperation with ARGO November 4th

• Bakelite planes ready at PanPla company. To be sent to General Technica (this week)

500 chambers are necessary for one SpectrometerEach Spectrometer has to be installed, together with RPC’s in 6 months


ELECTRONICS

Front-End card (2nd prototype):- 64 channels (final, 16 ch for prototype)- differential receivers exaustively studied (good response until 5 mV)- Zin = 100 - input polarization for at least two samples- threshold tunable 0 – 300 mV for groups of 16 channels- mask single input- digital test-in- FastOR over 16 channels 1 s long, TTL output at 50 - generation of interrupt on the FastOR- external trigger/gate for all the channel. TTL output at high Z- double buffer for the events- VME-like read-out

Backplane:- for Eurocrate 6U- 19 FE cards of 64 channels each- in the 2 free positions a power supply “switching”-like 250 W, +3.3 V, +5 V, ±12 V, standard PCI

…offers from company on the way…possibility to build the prototype in Padova under investigation

FE 64 channels card:- final design under going

Strip-connectors-FE-cards:- Impedence adapters- under definition at LNF

Cabling:- ready to buy

High Voltage system:- under development at LNF


• System test at Gran Sasso very well in time and succesfully set-up• RPC pre-production will allow complete test of the system for end of August• Many tests on the full scale RPC prototypes -> good results• Mechanics on the way on. First prototype for installation end of July• Electronics well suited. Need FE – DAQ integration. More people are coming• Production for OPERA at General Technica tight but acceptable.
