STATES OF MATTER

MATTERMatter is anything that has mass and occupies space. There are three states of matter.● SOLID: Solid has definite shape and definite volume.● LIQUID:Liquid has a definite volume but no definite

shape.● GAS: Gas has neither definite shape nor definite

volume.

KINETIC MOLECULAR THEORY

● Matter is made up of small particles called molecules.

● They are always in motion.● The three states of matter depend upon their

arrangements of particles.

INTERCONVERSION OF THREE STATES

● SUBLIMATION:It is a process in which solid is directly converted into gas without undergoing liquid state.

MELTING AND BOILING POINT

MELTING POINT:The temperature at which solis starts melting.BOILING POINT:The temperature at which liquid starts boiling.

FUSION & EVAPORATION

FUSION:Conversion of solid into liquid state.EVAPORATION:Conversion of liquid into gas without heating.

FREEZING POINT & VAPOURIZATION

FREEZING POINT:The temperature at which liquid starts freezing.VAPOURIZATION:Conversion of liquid into gas.
