During my college days, I tutored several poor students for over a year in Mathematics In the future, I see myself being at the forefront of technological renaissance and my dream is to be at the helm of this gradual shift towards clean and eco-friendly technologies. Purdue University is the right place for me to realize this dream of mine and it will be an honour for me to be given the opportunity to pursue Masters Program at your esteemed university.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Venkayala Pruthvi Raj

Department of Mechanical Engineering,

BITS-Pilani.

I seek to pursue graduate studies to satisfy an inherent desire in me to endlessly learn and experience the thrill of

solving problems. A Masters in Science program will broaden my realm of knowledge and therefore will put me

on a journey that I, otherwise, would not have undertaken.

With physical sciences and Mathematics being my strengths, the decision to pursue mechanical engineering at

under graduate level was a natural one. I stood in the top 0.1% amongst 136,000 applicants to gain admission to

one of the top 5 engineering universities in India – BITS, Pilani. I have further represented my university at the

renowned Formula student Hungary competition held at Gyor in Hungary. Active participation at various SAE

events has been instrumental in my decision to pursue graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. My interests

are in the area of fluid mechanics and Combustion & propulsion.

I got an opportunity to intern at a company called Aktis Engineering services during the summer break

following my first year in Under Graduation. I got hands on experience in using Uni Graphics (NX 5). I began

acquiring knowledge in fluid flow analysis and other areas of fluid mechanics apart from trying various CFD

software packages.

During my third year, the then racing team of the BITS, Inspired Karters Racing, decided to take part in

Formula Student Hungary that was held in Gyor in the year 2012. I was picked post my performance in the

technical test and subsequent interviews. Being part of the powertrain subsystem, I played an instrumental role

in selecting the engine. I created a model of car’s acceleration performance and performed subsequent

calculations in MATLAB. I played a key role during CFD analysis of intake manifold.

During my internship at TQMS, I lead a team of three and successfully organized several promotional activities

for an internal pan – TATA competition called “Challengers Worth solving” and in the process I honed my

organizational skills and got to exhibit leadership skills.

Post my decision to pursue Master’s program, I was on a lookout for a school that would give me wholesome

opportunities in terms of course structure and some live projects that involve the analysis of fluid flows. I would

like to work under the Professor Steven Frankel on Computational Combustion Modelling. I am very much

familiar with the research work of Professor S. Fleeter in the area of Fluid Mechanics. I am fully convinced that

Purdue University is the right place for me to pick up all the required tools enabling me to pursue something

significant in my desired area of interest.

The quest to know myself better has drawn me to extracurricular activities time and again. I have represented

my school at various quizzing events and I have played basketball at school level. During my college days, I

tutored several poor students for over a year in Mathematics

In the future, I see myself being at the forefront of technological renaissance and my dream is to be at the helm

of this gradual shift towards clean and eco-friendly technologies. Purdue University is the right place for me to

realize this dream of mine and it will be an honour for me to be given the opportunity to pursue Masters

Program at your esteemed university.
