Layout

The layout I will be using for my contents page will comprise of two columns using InDesign, one side will consist of the information and the page numbers whilst the other will include the anchored images and captions, InDesign is the program I will use to organise my information, this would make it easy for my audience to find my major cover stories. It is important that I use these, as those are the basic conventions of a contents page.

Page 3: Statement of intent

According to my research of three different contents they all had large images that filled the majority of the contents page, this could be a convention of a contents page, also it is important I do not list my information, however explain the page, my images must also be anchored this is another convention of a contents page . It is important that I use grids as it would a line my text.

The images I will be using will relate to the genre I have picked, which is hip-hop and it would definitely relate to my target audience which is females. From my research of hip- hop contents pages and hip-hop as a genre in general I have noticed that the images used are expressive, eye-catching and the way artists/ models are positioned would straight away confirm to a reader that they are representing that genre. It is important that my image appeals to my potential target audience or relates to them in some sort of way as my images would lure my audience in so it is important that my image attracts my audience. I could experiment with camera angles; knowing that a close up is more intimate and personal and a low- angled shot makes objects look bigger and more personal. I could include a variety of images to make it more interesting.

The stories I will include would link to my front page and to my genre, I will include stories that will relate to my audience using my research. I could include an agony aunt issue; this would be of interest to my 16- 25 year old audience as there would be a wide variety of questions or an interview of an up and coming artist. If I was to include these stories in my contents page I would anchor it to images, this would professionalize the contents page and would intrigue my audience. The essential information on my contents page however would be: Features and a pull quote, this was inspired by my research

The colour scheme I will use for my contents page will be simple and will consist of no more than three colours; this is because I want the main focus to be on my main image and my font, in my research of contents pages the main image and the font stood out from the background. Also colour schemes where extremely simple, this is what I will definitely adapt when making my contents.

Red and black is an

example of a colour scheme

I would like to follow.
