this weekend, you may wish to place your ShareLife donations in

the regular collection basket or drop it off at the parish office

before the end of July; or you may wish to give by way of credit

card by visiting www.sharelife.org. Our next ShareLife

collection will take place 26/27 May. Our goal this year is

$57,000.

The National March for Life will take place in Ottawa on

Thursday May 10th, 2018. Buses will depart from St.

Bernadette’s parish at 6:30am, and will return back to the parish

at approximately 9:30pm. The cost is $25. To register, please call

St. Bernadette’s Parish Office at 905 683 1533.

.

To help bring families together in a spiritual

activity and promote devotion to Mary, the

Knights, their families and other parishioners

are encouraged to pray the rosary as a

corporate body every time a 5th Sunday

occurs during a month.

The Knights will lead a decade of the Rosary before each Mass.

The next 5th Sunday Rosary prayer services will be held on

Sunday April 29, 2018 at 6.30 PM just before the 7.00 PM Mass.

All are welcome.

FIFTH SUNDAY ROSARY

Since 1967, the Catholic bishops of Canada have entrusted the

Canadian Catholic Organization for Development & Peace

(CCODP) with the mandate of working in developing countries to

support projects that reflect the social justice mission of the Catholic

Church. We also rely on CCODP, as the Canadian member of the

Vatican’s humanitarian relief network, Caritas Internationalis, to

channel emergency funds when disaster strikes. In the Archdiocese

of Toronto, many donors and volunteers faithfully contribute to this

important work. I am grateful for their continued support of our

brothers and sisters in need.

In 2009, due to concerns about problematic partners in numerous

countries, I announced that the Archdiocese of Toronto would

require CCDOP to provide greater scrutiny of its projects with

overseas partners to ensure that they are consistent with Catholic

teaching.

CCDOP is a significant recipient of funds collected as part of our

annual ShareLife appeal. We consider our relationship with our

donors to be that of a sacred trust. It was therefore also

communicated to CCODP that funding from the Archdiocese of

Toronto would require letters of endorsement from a local Catholic

bishop or bishops’ conference to ensure that projects and partners

were appropriately vetted at the local level and certified to be in

harmony with our faith. This process has continued for almost a

decade. Our donors’ funds have not been disbursed until these

assurances were provided.

A recent review of CCODP partners, conducted by representatives

of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), has

produced alarming concerns about dozens of overseas

organizations. We anticipate a more detailed report on the situation

in the coming months. In the interim, we will be withholding our

2018 allocation to CCODP until more information is provided to the

CCCB. As CCODP is the development arm established by the

Catholic bishops, it is critical to ensure that it allocates no funds to

projects or groups that operate contrary to the moral and social

teachings of the church.

REFLECTION

This week, we conclude by looking at another parallel

between St. Peter and St. Paul with Acts of the Apostles. St.

Luke is stressing in this parallel that even though St. Paul is

a post-Ascension apostle, Paul is equally an apostle. St.

Paul’s role is equally important in the foundation of the

Catholic Church. Consider the following:

Acts 1-12 (Peter) Acts 13-28 (Paul)

2:1-40 The Holy Spirit 13:1-40 The Holy Spirit

descends and Peter descends and Paul

delivers a speech delivers a speech

3:1-26 Peter heals a man 14:8-17 Paul heals a man

crippled from birth and crippled from birth and

delivers a speech delivers a speech

5:15 Peter performs 19:2 Paul performs

extraordinary miracles extraordinary miracles

of healing the sick and of healing the sick and

exorcising unclean spirits exorcising unclean

spirits

8:9-24 Peter confronts 13:6-12 Paul confronts

and curses Simon the and curses Elymas the

magician magician

9:36-43 Peter raises 20:9-12 Paul raises

Tabitha from the dead Eutychus from the dead

10-11 Divine guidance leads 13-21 Divine guidance

Peter on a mission to the leads Paul on a mission

to

Gentiles the Gentiles

12:1-19 Peter is arrested, 16:16-40 Paul is arrested

imprisoned and imprisoned and

miraculously escapes miraculously escapes

FIRST

COMMUNION

MARRIAGE & COMMUNION

Due to the many misconceptions regarding the Catholic

Church and marriage, please note that a Catholic may marry a

non-Catholic in the Catholic Church, without his or her

conversion to the faith. In some instances, a person, who has

been previously married, can also be married in the Catholic

Church after consultation with the priest. If as a Catholic you’re

married outside of the Catholic Church without the permission

of the Church, we respectfully ask that you refrain from

receiving the Eucharist until your marriage has been validated

(“sacramentalized”) by a Catholic priest or deacon. To remedy

this situation, please call one of the priests to make an

appointment to have your marriage validated. We are only too

happy to bring back to the couple, the graces necessary to live

out their marriage, and to reconcile them with the graces of the

Eucharist
