Dear Nobles and Ladies, Fall is here and it won’t be

long until Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year has really flown by. The Divan will have our annual visits to the Clubs in October. Abilene will be Mon-day, October 2nd, Nolan County Tuesday, October 3rd, our stated meeting will be Monday October 16th, Midland Shrine Club Thurs-day, October 19th and ending with Concho Shrine Club on Friday, October 20th.

Everyone needs to sell more raffle tickets on the Polaris. We will have the drawing at the stated meeting in November.

We have had a booth at the West Texas Fair & Rodeo in Abilene. This is the first time and it was successful. We handed out several petitions for Blue Lodge and met and visited a lot of people. We netted around $1700

with pecan and raffle sales. IF anyone needs pecans for baking or chocolate and cinnamon, we have extra at the Temple. Come by or call and let us know. They are $12 a pound.

The Daughters of the Nile will be hosting Texas Day October 5-7th in Abilene. Erin Bennett and her team have been very busy putting it all together. I know it will be a great event.

We will have a new commer-cial refrigerator in October thanks to Jeanne Standard, Junior Past Queen of the Ziphron Temple #100. Her contribution of $3500 is in honor of Past Queen Shirley Culp, Daughters of the Nile and in memory of Rusty Culp. Jeanne, thank you very much. This will really help to have extra storage for our meals. Not only the Road Kill Cookies, but others that use the Suez facilities will benefit

greatly from it.May God bless, attend Blue

Lodge and we will see everyone at the stated meeting in October.

Yours in the Faith,Tommy WhitePotentate

Lord, so that it will go well with you.” These are powerful words that give each of us room for thought. I want you to stop and think about the days of this month before you received this article. Have all your deeds that have been completed, be pleasing in the sight of our God. Many times I have heard the preachers say. ” May the words from my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you my Lord.” So then it means that what we say and also what we do should be pleasing to our God.

I did a funeral last month for one of our Nobles. I gleaned a lot of in-formation from the family as I spent valuable time with them. When I developed the graveside service, you could say I had a lot of things I could have talked about. There were also a lot of things I left out. My words had to be pleasing onto our God. Now hold on a minute. It hasn’t always been that way for me. I am sure that there were days in my Military past that weren’t so pleasing. But I had the good sense to change that way of life. If I can do it, you can too.

Here is some good advice to help you. When you are about to say or do something, pause and think if about its effect. Will it be pleasing to those who hear it and also God? Maybe if your mother was present, would it please her? It took me years of pausing but it was well worth it. It just comes natural now to walk with God in my daily life. Give it a try and you will be a better person for it.

September was super busy and lots of pictures were taken. Keep those coming. You can email me [email protected], text my cell 325-513-4461 or send them on Facebook Messenger and we will get them on the Suez Facebook Page, Website and the Scribblings. If you want to be considered for a Cover Photo for the Scribblings, make sure to take an Up-And-Down photo. I am planning on making visits to the Monthly So-cials for Midland, Brownwood, Sweetwater and more stated meetings to meet more Nobles and spread the word about our Web-site, Facebook page and the new programs that Imperial has out as well as some national events. I hope to see you all soon.

Suez NewsPP Jimmy Sharp was presented

a very nice Emeritus Certificate at the September Suez Stated Meet-ing for his long and continued par-ticipation at Imperial Session. Did you know that you can attend the Imperial Session even if you are not on the Divan? You bet. Plus, we would love to have you at our October Social and plans are in the works for a New Year’s Eve Party in San Angelo.

The Joe Moss Boys in Abilene are ready for the fall. Cold Weather, Cold Drinks and Warm Fellowship. We have some fundraising meals in store for the fall and some great fellowship planned at the Abilene Shrine Club.

The Fire Brigade was busy with Parades for Sweetwater and Blackwell’s Homecoming and the West Texas Fair & Rodeo Parade in Abilene. We also welcomed our new Noble Cody Hephcoat who joined us for the Abilene Parade.

The Greeters are proud to report that we are Greeting and doing a fine job at it.

Ala-CartsWe need cart riders. How cool

would it be to ride a fun cart in a parade or an obstacle course? We have the carts, we just need rid-ers. If you live anywhere around the Midland Area, we would love to fire up the carts and get riding. If you are interested in joining the Ala-Cart Crew, call Danyl Dormady at 432-559-5530 for more informa-tion.

If interested in joining the Suez Provost Guard, call Provost Mar-shall Rick Jones at 325-260-7885

The Road Kill Cookers served up a fine meal at the September Stated. We cook at every stated meeting. The Current Divan is part of the Road Kill Cookers but any-one can come out, lend a hand, slap on an apron and be a part of the fun. Come see us.

The Abilene Klowns have done some great work lately. We par-ticipated in the West Texas Fair & Rodeo Parade and a tip of the Klown Cap to Rick “Snuffy” Jones for working the booth in clown costume and for attend-ing the Buddy Walk in Abilene. Thank you to Metal Mart and Rick Jones for their donation to the Abilene Klowns. And thanks to our Donors, Clyde Feed Store, Hamilton Supply, Abilene Filtration Specialists, Mrs Betty Johnson, Damon Albus & 5D Custom Hats & Leather and NAPA Auto Parts in Abilene. News from the Houston Hospital By James HawkinsThe Houston Hospital faired

very well with recent hurricane Harvey. The water level raised over the grass and almost to the circle drive and only caused minor damage in the form of six leaks throughout the hospital. Our staff went above and beyond during this emergency although some of the hospital employees were per-sonal affect by the hurricane. The EAC (employee activity committee) has put together a Houston Texans themed basket for raffle with all the proceeds going to employees af-fected by the storm. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets ($1 each) or just donate to the cause please contact me via my email address. ([email protected]).

The main topic of our Septem-ber board meeting was balancing the budget. All of the hospital staff has been hard at work preparing the budget for next year’s op-erations. The staff has also been working on ways to help reduce hospital costs while maintaining the excellent care of our children.

The hospitals public relation group has been hard at work increasing our reach on social media. Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter followers have increased along with more activity on our Houston hospital webpage. If you are not following our hospital on social media, I would highly

James Hawkins

The Rio Grande Valley hospital clinic was delayed to Sept 27th and 28th because of hurricane Harvey. The last valley clinic treated 168 children and this clinic looks to be close to the same number of children. Recently, we have seen an increase of children to our out-reach clinics so there was a need to setup a new clinic in Orange, Texas which is east of Beaumont. November 4th will be the first date in this area. Listed below are next outreach clinics dates.

El Salvador Update Through lots of team work,

communication, effort & organi-zation the Nobles of El Salvador Shriners with the assistance of one of Suez’s Past Directors were able to pull off the Hail Mary of of all plays. At the Imperial Ses-sion we organized to get CEO & Chairman of Board of Shriners Hospitals, Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt, Executive VP of Shriners Hospital, Noble John McCabe & Hospital Board of Trustee Member, Dr. Peter Diaz to visit the El Salvador Shrine Club Clinic for Children. We also arranged to have special advisors including Illustrious Ricky Arrocha & OG Roberto Guilen from El Salvador’s home temple of Abou Saad from Panama & Il-lustrious Sir Dave Smelser come

down to see the work being per-formed here & provide feedback. What took place from September 17th-20th could only be described as a dream, all of our guest were amazed with the country & the work being performed at our clinic. Nothing is final but a Shriners Hospitals for Children is looking at performing surgery & care for 50-60 untreated scoliosis cases here, put in an ICU for the burns clinic, help us find supplies, get us used equipment from hospitals & most importantly provide medical training for Dr. Patricia & her staff here to maintain the quality of our work for the children, all of which will come out to roughly around $5 million over the next few years for everything. We all went meet with the President of the Congress who

has agreed that if Shriners builds this ICU the government will pro-vide funding to staff it, starting off with $500,000. We meet with the Mayors of Antiguo Cuscatlán & San Salvador, they are on board to help us better our cause. Lots of big things are about to happen here, we are very excited that we had these visitors here & that we get to be part of something so much bigger then ourselves. The Nobles here have a special place for Suez & Mecca Shriners in their hearts, they would like to join me in saying thank you Illustrious Sir Tommy for allowing me to work on this project with these Brothers using the Suez name. Viva El Salvador.

It has been a busy summer for Ziphron No. 100, despite being dark for a few months! In June, nine members of our Temple trav-eled to Niagara Falls, New York for the 101st Annual Supreme Session of Daughters of the Nile. During Supreme Session, a check was presented from the Daughters of the Nile Foundation to Shri-ner’s Hospitals for Children in the amount of $1,704,086.00. Four of our members were also honored to have been named Supreme Appointees for 2017: PQ Janet L. Hawkins was appointed to the Supreme Temple Action Team committee; PQ Denise Wilkinson was appointed Supreme Goodwill

Erin Bennett

Ambassador for the Central Area; PQ Barbara Sherrod was appoint-ed Supreme Temple American Flag Escort; PQ Ann Leach was ap-pointed Supreme Temple Banner Escort. Congratulations to each of these ladies! These appointments are well deserved and your dedi-cation to Daughters of the Nile is much appreciated!

In July, we met for a summer social and “no sew” event at the Abilene Shrine Club. We tied fleece blankets to be sent to the hospi-tals and made coloring kits for the kids in the hospitals to use while waiting for their appointments with doctors. We also enjoyed a won-derful feast of a lunch and great fellowship!

Our summer has also been busy due to the hustle and bustle of planning and preparing to host-ess Texas Days in Abilene at the MCM Elegante Hotel on October 5th-7th, 2017. Texas Days is the annual conference of all 13 Texas

Daughters of the Nile Temples, and many attendees come from other Temples across the U.S. and Canada too. The dinner banquet on Saturday, October 7th, is open to all Shriners and their ladies and we would love to have as many as possible attend. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening of entertainment by the various performing units within Daughters of the Nile, as well as some great guest speakers. The cost is $35 before August 31st and $45 from August 31st until September 25th. For more information or to register for the banquet, please contact me at 325-669-7061.
