STATE OF THEWORLD:CONGO

IntroEvery week or so, Laymen News will publish a State of the World article to

explain in basic terms whats going on around the world. No promises if its

weekly or not. Definitely not going on a schedule thats for damn sure.

Anyways, The State of the World articles will feature a di!erent and discuss

their problems. Dont worry well dumb this down for you. Thats why were

here in the first place. Without further ado, heres the first country.

Democratic Republic of the CongoMost of you guys probably have no clue

whats going on in Africa. Thats a major

problem. No, Im not going to tell you to

donate to UNICEF to feed the hungrythere. We can do that through GMOs.

No theres a long term problem that

a!ects the stability of the entire region.

Terrorism. Thats right, you think that

terrorism is an imminent threat to

America? Try living in the Democratic

Republic of Congo (DRC). March 23, or

M23, is a terrorist group named after a

peace agreement made on March 23rd,

2009. They have close ties to the sect of Islam called Tutsi in Rwanda.

These guys are bad news. They rape, they execute, they commit mass

murder. They even recruit kids into their army. The DRC cant do shit about them either

even with the UNs help. M23 rebels took the city of Goma, stayed for 10 days, then left on

their own free will. The UN had to take drastic measures to enable o!ensive force,

(something NEVER done before) team up with Congo, and push M23 out of the country.

Yay good guys win right? Nope. M23 just regrouped and

entered the country stronger. As of right now they are back inthe country wreaking havoc. The story is to be continued but

this is starting to look like a battle of attrition so stay tuned.

The DRC isnt the only place that has to deal with terrorism, in

fact, almost the entire continent has to face an imminent

threat of terrorism. These African countries have been held

back by war and terrorism and cant move forward. Things

arent looking bright either. I know this is depressing but its a fact of life. There is so much

war and corruption in Africa because these countries are so new. There was huge

colonization in Africa as late as the 1960s. The fight over religion isnt helping either. The

rest of the world is doing a lot to help as shown in the UN case above. There is hope, but it

will take a huge amount of aid from other countries. With that, that is the State of the

Democratic Republic of the Congo.
