We at Bay Valves are proud to presents the latest generation state of the art equipment - Controlling Flow and Flames™ In the following we will briefly introduce ourselves and our product range as well as briefly up-date you on the latest changes to the rules and regulations.

Manufacturer of cargo tank ventilation equipment BAY Valves is based in Nyborg – Denmark, close to the place of the invention of the High Velocity valve in the year 1971. Denmark has since then established itself as an expert community and knowledge centre within Cargo tank ventilation - Especially within the specific field of High velocity valves. A highly skilled group of engineers with extensive knowledge within Fluid Dynamic i.e. High Velocity valves are continuously striving for excellence - Improving on safety and functionality. The advantage of the High Velocity valves HI Jet ISO II is that it is absolutely non-hammering and performs opening and closing according to the international fire testing standard EN 12874 and the latest amendment to ISO 15364:2007 which both requires a maximum of 0,5 hz - Equal to a 2 seconds cycle from the valve is closed to open and closed again. Furthermore the HI Jet ISO II has been simultaneously tested to the European standard EN 12874 and gas group IIB (MESG 0,5 for chemicals) at the independent German Notified body (Wheel-mark approved) Institut Für Sicherheitstechnik - IBExU. With regard to functionality, the superiority relates to the adjustable setting which allows the valve setting (opening pressure) to be changed according to the authorities or charterers changing requirement e.g. from 1400 mm to 1700 mm WG for oil tankers or even from 2000 mm WG and above for chemicals - Simply by turning a nut, which can even be done in service. Other products for the marine and off-shore industry as well as the petro-chemical industry e.g. flame arresters, pressure-vacuum valves, detonation arresters etc. is available from stock. Should you require more information, or wish to discuss any issue related to cargo tank ventilation, pressure-vacuum release and devices to prevent the passage of flames, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned. Yours Sincerely, BAY Valves ApS

Information on rules & regulations

EC MED 96/98 Council Directive

COMMISSION DIRECTIVE 2008/67/EC of 30 June 2008 amending Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment Into force date: 21st of July 2009 Implements the EN 12874:2001 fire test standard. The IMO MSC Circ 677 - “Revised standards for the design, testing and location of Devices to prevent the passage of flames into cargo tanks on tankers” is still in force. But with regard to the actual fire testing, the weak wording of “Non-hammering” has been replaced by the more accurate 0,5 hz requirement of the EN 12874. This is a major improvement which reaches beyond improved standards for fire-testing since it also inflicts the actual performance of the valves.

COMMISSION DIRECTIVE 2009/26/EC of 6 April 2009 amending Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment Into force date: 06 of April 2010 Implements the latest version of the ISO 15364. The ISO 15364 standard with its intentions, was back in 2002 long needed in order to secure equipment more suited to the specific application. The 2007 version continues in the footsteps of the 2001 version, it is a brush-up, and does likewise not bring any revolution to the industry. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our staff at work The engineers questionnaire According to SOLAS 74 II Reg. 59 a system for cargo tank ventilation can be either a common or an individual one which in both cases has to be protected by a Device to prevent the passage of flame as specified in IMO MSC/Circ 677/1009. A common system consists of a branch line from each cargo or slop tank connected to a common venting line. An individual system is equipped with approved equipment on each tank in order to secure full flow capacity, breathing capabilities and full cargo segregation. The system in question has been either informed or estimated as having the following characteristic: INFORMED ESTIMATE INFORMED ESTIMATE IMO Designation IMO II Cargo tanks 18 Cargo Gas-group IIB Slop tanks 2 MESG 0,65 Other tanks USCG VCS YES Gas-freeing covers 20 Common Gas freeing blower Individual YES Setting – pressure 2000 mm wg Cargo Segregation ALL Setting Vacuum - 350 mm wg Loading rate 500 m3/h Material AISI 316 Un-loading rate 500 m3/h Flange DIN PN 10 Please feel free to return this page only, which will be identified by the quotation No. listed at the top of the page.
