State of India's Environment

India has abundant natural resources. However the developmental activities in India have resulted in

pressure on its natural resources.

✔ Rivers✔ Lush Green forests✔ Abundant Mineral resources✔ Vast coast line✔ Plenty of Mountain ranges✔ Rich quality soil✔ High level of bio diversity

State of India's Environment

The threat to India's environment is from two sides :

1. Poverty induced environmental degradation● Deforestation ● Overcrowding (hence Growth of Slums)

2. Threat of pol lution from industrial sector

● Air pollution● Water Contamination● Soil erosion● Wildlife extinction

Issues connected with Environment

● Land Degradation

● Bio Diversity Loss

● Air pollution

● Water Pollution

● Solid Waste Management

LAND DEGRADATION

CAUSES● Deforestation● Encroachment into forest land for cultivation● Extraction of wood for fuel● Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides● Non adoption of crop rotation● Excessive exploitation of ground water● Excessive sand mining from rivers● Use of fertile top soil for brick and tile making● Non adoption of soil conservation measures● Uncontrol led fel ling of trees

AIR POLLUTION

CAUSES● Increasing industrialization ● Increasing vehicular traffic● Excessive presence of gases like CO, CO

2, NO

2, SO

2 etc

WATER POLLUTION

CAUSES● Domestic and human waste water● Industrial waste water● Agricultural run of
