Most four-year colleges in the United States provide credit and/or advanced placement

for qualifying scores.

The most selective institutions do not award credits for IBDP and AP courses/scores but expect students to have taken advantage of

these programs.

Students need to research their specific institution’s policies.

How will these courses affect my grades?

•All AP courses are graded on a 5 point scale.•All IBDP Higher Level (HL) courses are graded on a 5 point scale.•Running Start courses are graded on a 4 point scale.•If you receive an F or don’t take the exam(s) for any reason, you will be graded on a regular 4-point scale and your course will be reported as a “regular” course on your transcript.

What is RUNNING START?

•statewide program that provides an opportunity for academically qualified juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes through the University of Hawaiʻi system as part of their high school coursework.

•allows public high school students to attend college classes during the fall, spring, and summer while earning both high school and college credits. Currently, nine UH campuses participate in the Running Start program.

Running Start Considerations•All approved RS credits earned count as ELECTIVE credit only at Kaiser High School.

Academic Honors diploma requirements for the Class of 2016 and on…

– 4 credits of Math: The 4th credit beyond Algebra 2 must be earned via a combination of the following half-credit courses (or equivalent IB math courses): Algebra 3, Trigonometry, Analytic Geometry, Precalculus.

– 4 credits of Science: Of the four credits, one credit must be in Biology 1 (or equivalent IB Biology; or AP Biology courses); and the other three credits must be lab-based science credits.

– Two credits minimum must be from AP/IBDP/Running Start courses (equivalent to credits for 2 college courses).

IBDPStudents interested in IBDP should see Mr. Bogard before you leave this evening. The early application deadline has passed but students may still submit an application by Nov. 24.

Running StartStudents interested in the Running Start program should make an appointment to see their grade level counselor to begin the planning process.

AP•Meet with the AP Teacher(s) for the course(s) you are thinking about taking tonight.•Learn about course expectations•Find out about what kind of commitment it will take in order to succeed.•Review the course syllabus•Ask questions

If you and your family agree that AP is for you:•Show your teacher your completed AP Agreement form•Ask the teacher for a registration course label for your card.•Turn in the AP Agreement form and your registration card in KAP on Nov. 26.
