Scholarship News Pennie Taylor
The autumn season is a special time to give thanks and have gratitude for our abundance. I am especially thankful for California State University Sacramento, where I studied for my own teaching credentials in an amaz-ing program. The "Sac State" College of Education continues to prepare EXCELLENT TEACHERS for all grade-levels. September 25, 2020 was the 31st annual event ("Virtual" this year) to honor College of Ed. scholarship recipients and the donors. Our CRTA State Capital Division, funded two Dolores L. Toto Memorial Scholarships of $2,000 each. We were sent special letters of thanks from the Dean, Dr. Alexander Sidorkin, and our wonderful recipients, Mariela Diaz and Anabelle Manalo. Mariela Diaz wants to "make a difference for working class students in the class-rooms." She is working on a Master's, and eventually a Ph.D. Anabelle Manalo is completing her work with a Special Education concentration. All recipients are able to use the money for fees, books, rent, transportation, food, and living expenses. The Virtual Website may be viewed at csus.edu/college/education, with the MANY student photos, statements, and letters in alphabetical order. Over $115,000 in
scholarships were awarded this fall to seventy-three (73) CSUS College of Education future teachers, counselors, and psychologists. We are GRATEFUL for the generosity and resources in Our Community!!
Please continue to donate to our CalRTA Div.5 Funds by sending checks to our Treasurers, Clark and Sharon Swanson, (Address in Directory). Also, please feel free to email or phone me.

Advocacy C. Openness to new ideas and creative ways to solve problems D. Flexible meeting formats E. Keeping ourselves and our families SAFE Welcome to our 107 new members from the Elk Grove Unified School District as well as our other new members.

Tell Congress to Repeal the WEP/GPO Penalties
1. Make Your Voice Heard: Each Week the Government Relations Committee (GRC) sends out three legislative alerts. Open a GRC Email and there will be a
list of ten representatives / senators. Each will have a link to an aide who tallies responses received. Click on contact’s name, and a message appears. Sign your name and press Send! Takes less than 10 minutes to be heard. IT’S EASY!
2. We are So Close: All we need are 38 more representatives and we will have two thirds of the House on our side. This will force a vote to repeal WEP and GPO penalties!
3. Get the Alerts: If you are not receiving GRC alerts, send an email to: [email protected]
