  • Current Project...

Journey Home is a Christian ministry that seeks to share Jesus love by serving refugee

    claimant families in Metro Vancouver.

Journey Home is currently aiding Tamil refugees who have recently arrived on a boat from Sri Lanka. They have been asked to provide housing and reset-tlement assistance for 10 of these families (women

and children) soon to be released from detention next week. Their aim is to assist these families with

housing and address their immediate physical needs, as well as introduce them to resettlement resources and help them establish a strong rela-tional support network.

While BCs welfare system will provide each family with a basic shelter and sup-port allowance, it does not typically cover the market rate for rentals in our communities. We may be in need of some funds to subsidize the housing rates or to bring on a short-term staff person to assist with this immediate project. Your church might consider a benevolent offering specifically for the Tamil family project or a donation to JHC for our ongoing work with refugees. A vacant house or apartment could be leased to our organization and provide vital shelter to one or more families. Warmer clothes for women and children will be required - gently used clothes, coats, boots, and hats would be helpful and there may be a need for backpacks and school supplies. We will have need for some furniture, house-hold goods, bedding, etc. for the housing units. Any leftover goods will be used in our ministry or become part of the inventory for the anticipated launch of our Thrift Store. Volunteers are needed who can help with some initial logistics - moving etc. and others who would be committed to showing Gods love through friendship. Those who speak the Tamil language to provide interpretation will be especially helpful. We need prayer for these needs and for the families that have arrived in Canada from Sri Lanka. Pray that they would experience and respond to the saving love of Jesus.

For more information contact James Grunau cell 604.329-8112 james@grunau.ca
