• We believe that reading can be for everyone
• We publish short, accessible books by big name authors
• The books are written to literacy guidelines but have all the action and emotion of the author’s other books
• We carry out wide ranging activity in partnership with experts to get the books into the hands of the people who need them most
We Aim...• To change lives through reading• To be the bridge between literacy
and literature• To be enthusiasts and to work with
experts• That everyone everywhere feels
good about their involvement with us

The benefits of reading…
NRDC Research: main findings
• Pair work and group work encourage progress• Teachers should allow more time for learners to
engage in ‘active reading’• Self study is essential if learners are to persist and progress• Expanding time spent ‘on task’ inside and outside the
classroom is crucial to helping learners make progress, especially since provision typically takes the form of just one class a week.
Burton, M. (2007)
Oral Fluency
Burton et al suggest that methods to help adults develop oral fluency such as paired reading; choral reading, partnered reading and performance reading can all help learners to make significant gains in reading comprehension and confidence
