    woulddissuademanyplayers.SotheultimatesolutionistouseLaserTaggunsononeofthemanyprotocols

    thatexist,eithercommerciallyoropensource.Whatdoesthismeantoyou?Whatitmeansisthatagroupof

    friendsgottogetherandaftermuchblood,sweat,tearsandmoney,builtalasertagsystemusingtheMilesTag

    system.ThisgivesusaveryuniqueandsimplisticsystemtosimulategunsinLiveRoleplayingwhichinturn

    opensmanydoorstothepossibilityofrunninggameworldsthatwereoriginallybeyondourreach,suchas

    2. IntroductiontotheStargateInternationalGameWorld2.1. STARGATEINTERNATIONAL

    2.1.1. WhatisitStargateInternationalisthenamewehavegivenourliveroleplayinggameworld.Basedontheverypopular

    StargateTVserieswehavecreatedarulesetandadaptedourlasertagroleplayingequipmentsothatyoucan

    takepartinalltheexcitement.Takingknowledgefromall3TVshows(SG1,Atlantis,andUniverse)wehave

    thenadaptedittoourownstorylinesothatwecancreatenewandinterestingstoriesforplayersto

    experienceandenjoy.

    2.1.2. HowdoesitfitinwiththeTVshow?Duringseason10ofStargate,itcanbeseenthattheUSgovernmentisinvestingmoretimeandresourcesinto

    Atlantisbecauseitwasaninternationalproject,whereasStargatecommandwasalmostexclusivelyAmerican

    controlled.AsaresultthebudgetforStargatecommandwasgettingsmallerandstartingtostretchthin.While

    itwouldneverbeactuallycloseddown,theAtlantisprojectwasbeingfundednotonlyfromtheAmerican

    governmentbutfromallthegovernmentsinvolved,thusmakingitmorefinanciallyviable.

    Withrisingcostsandlittletoshowforit,itwasdecidedtosharecontroloftheStargateProgramwiththe

    othermajornationswhosignedthenondisclosuretreaty.ThesecountrieswereChina,England,France,and

    Russia.Aninternational OversightCommitteewasestablishedtokeepeveryonesinterestsatheart.Thisis

    wherewebeginforStargateInternational.

    2.2. WHICHCOUNTRIESAREINVOLVED?2.2.1. Whatdifferencedoesitmaketocomefromaparticularcountry?

    Generallyspeaking,absolutelynothing.Intermsofwhatpoliticaltugofropewillentwineitselfaroundyouand

    eitherseduceyouorforceyouractions?Everything!TheStargateInternationalsituationisyoungandevery

    countryand

    faction

    is

    jostling

    for

    power.

    There

    are

    always

    those

    who

    are

    nefarious

    and

    shady,

    wanting

    what

    is

    bestforthemandtheircountry,orevenjustthemselves!Ontheotherhandtherearethosewhowantonly

    whatisbestfortheplanetbutwillgotoanylengthstoachieveit.Nomatterwhatcountryyouchooseyouwill

    eventuallybeembroiledinthepoliticsofthesituation,choosingacountrywilljustdetermineyouroriginal

    allegiance........ordoesit?Equipmentandmissionsarestandardbutoccasionallycharactersmaybeaskedto

    testoutnewgearorweaponrybeingdevelopedbyvariousfactions.Sowhereyoustartisreallyuptoyou!

    2.2.2. WhichcountriescanIchoosefrom?ThemaincountriesthathavesignedontotheStargateInternationalprogramareAmerica,China,Britain,

    FranceandRussia.Youcancomefromacountrythatisnotmentionedbutyouneedtohaveadecent

    backgroundstorytojustifyyourcomingintotheprogram.Alsoifyoudonotcomefromoneoftheabove

    mentionedcountries

    you

    will

    still

    need

    to

    be

    on

    attachment

    to

    one.

    For

    example

    ifyou

    wanted

    to

    play

    a

    Irishman(orwoman)youwouldmostlikelybeattachedtotheBritisharmoftheStargateInternational

    program.ThatmeansthatyoutakeyourordersfromStargateInternationalCommandandanyordersthat

    comethroughfromMotherEngland.Ifyouhaveaninterestingideathatyouwanttotryoutthenfeelfreeto

    3. INGAMESAFETYPOINTS,GAMEPLAYANDSAFETYCALLS3.1. PERSONALSAFETY

    AllparticipantsofStargateInternational,includingplayers,NPCsorsupportstaffareresponsiblefortheirown

    personalsafetyatalltimes.Anyriskyorfoolishbehaviourwillnotbecondonedandanyinjurycausedbysaid

    suchactionsarenottheliabilityorresponsibility ofLasertagRoleplaying.

    Safetyis

    paramount

    in

    the

    Lasertag

    LRP

    group.

    Due

    to

    the

    nature

    of

    laser

    tag

    and

    living

    in

    Australia

    there

    are

    ruleswemustabidebyLawaswellasextrasafetyruleswewillimposeontheplayers. Wehaveinstitutedour

    ownsetofrulestoensuresafetyandtomakesurewecancontinuetheclubinthefuture.

    NoLaserPointers:Laserpointerscomeindifferentvarietiesandsomecanphysicallyinjurepeopleseyes.Asthesensorsofthegunpacksaresituatedontheheadandbodythelaserpointers,ifused,wouldalmost

    alwayspointtowardssomeoneshead.Wedonotwanttospendourtimecheckingallthelaserpointersand

    eventhennotbetotallysureoniftheyhurtpeopleseyes.

    NoRealWeapons:Noknives,Swords,axes,pocketknivesetc.Thereisonlyoneexceptionandthatisaknifefoundonasetofmultitoolsandeventhentheknifeisnotbeusedasaweaponinanysituation.Noreal

    Pistols,Rifles

    or

    guns

    of

    any

    types

    at

    all.

    NoPhysicalHandtoHandCombat:Wewillnotbeallowingpeopletoclubpeoplewithweapons,shovepeopleasidewhenrunning,hittingsomeoneinanyform,tripping,orwrestling.Nophysicalcontactistobemadewith

    anyotherparticipantwithouttheexpressconsentoftheindividualsinvolved.

    Theaboverulemayhaveanexceptioninacontrolledenvironment.Withthecorrectsafetymeasuresinplace

    andplayerswhoagreetothecombatthenitispossiblewewillhavephysicalcombatwithLRPstyleweapons.

    ItisentirelypossiblewemayevenallowphysicalcombatsthatinvolvenonLRPweaponsbutitissubjecttoa

    controlledenvironment,withsafetymeasures,andwithagreeingpartiesonly.

    We

    understand

    that

    accidents

    do

    happen

    in

    some

    situations.

    When

    we

    try

    to

    create

    a

    realistic

    immersive

    environmentwehavetotryandremovethevisiblesafetyprecautionsputinplace.Themoresafetyinvolved

    thelessrealistictheenvironmentbecomes.Becauseofsuchsituationsitsimportanttounderstandthe

    followingsituationsandagreetothetermsofthegamewiththeminvolved.

    NoBlindFiring:Thismeansessentiallythatatnopointshouldanypersonsticktheirgunaroundthecornerblindandshoot,i.e.shootingblind.Thisruleisineffectforonemainbutveryimportantreason.Bysticking

    yourgunaroundcornerswithoutlookingyouhavenoideaifyouarejustabouttopokesomeoneinthefaceor

    eyeswithyourgun.Thelastthinganybodywantsisabrightfluoroorangeplastictubeshovedintotheirface

    oreyeswithanysortofforcebehindit.Thisparticularactionisnotonlyheavilyfrowneduponitwillneverbe

    toleratedbyanyoftheorganisers.Anybodyseendoingthiswillbewarnedbutonlyonce.Ifyoucannot

    demonstratethat

    you

    have

    the

    maturity

    to

    play

    safely

    then

    you

    will

    not

    be

    playing

    at

    all.

    NightCombat:Militarystylenightcombatwillbeilluminatedquiteminimallyinsomeareas.Someplayerswillenjoynightgamesintotaldarknessandwecanprovidesuchexperiences.Inthedarktheenvironment

    becomesmuchmoredangerousaspeoplecantwisttheirfeetonrocksandpotholesorrunintoobstaclesin

    theenvironment. AnyoneuncomfortablewithnightcombatshouldmaketheirconcernsknowntoaGame

    MasterorReferee.

    FastPacedCombat:LaserTagcombatisamassiveadrenalinrushwithpacksthatcankeepscoreofthecombatsoitrunswithoutinterruptions.Playerswillrunfromcovertocoveroftenonunevenorunsecure

    groundorthroughthickbush.Scratcheswillbethemostcommoninjurybutplayerscansufferevengreater

    injuries

    if

    they

    are

    not

    careful.

    Again

    we

    control

    the

    situation

    and

    interrupt

    the

    game

    so

    it

    theirownpersonalsafetyandparticipantsshouldfindtheirowncomfortablelimitsforthegame.

    SecureFootwear:Laceupbootsthatcovertheanklesisamust.Theyhelpsupporttheankleandprotectthefeet

    better

    choice.

    KneePads/ElbowPads:Thoughnotanabsolutemustthesearehighlyrecommended.Ifyoutripoverwithkneepadsorelbowpadsyouhavetheabilitytolandonsomethingdesignedtocushionordeflecttheimpact

    beforetherestofthebodydoes.Alsowhenincombatyoucankneelwithoutworryingaboutkneelingon

    rocksorthelike.Cheapvarietiescanbegottenoftheseusedbyskateboarders.

    ThickLooseCottonPants/Bottom/Jacket/Top:Whileitmaygethotonsomedayspantswillstillberequired.Thisreducesthelegsfromscratchesfromtheenvironmentallowingplayerstoutilizetheenvironmentbetter.

    Canteen:Wewanttomakesureyoualwayshavewater.

    3.2. EQUIPMENTSAFETYANDCARETheequipmentusedbyLasertagLiveRoleplayingisquitecostlyinbothequipmentandtimetoproducesowe

    expectthatallparticipantsofoursystemtakecareofanyequipmentallocatedtothem.Atnopointshouldany

    personusetheirgearinanyformofphysicalattack(Noriflebutting!)orbethrownaroundandabused.The

    packsthemselvesarealsofragileintheirownwaysonodivingontostomachsorbacksshouldoccurasthe

    likelyhoodofnotonlybreakingsomethingbutinjuringyourselfishighlyprobable.Weaskthatpeoplegently

    lowerthemselvestothegroundwhennecessary.Theequipmentisalsoelectronicsojumpingintobodiesof

    waterwillnotbelookedonwithanyparticularhumoureither.Nonavysealsactionpeople!

    3.3. GAMEPLAYANDSAFETYCALLSIn

    There

    are

    organisers

    and

    carriedoutbytheplayers.Whenanyoneofthesecallsaremadebyapersonitisimportanttorepeatthecall

    toensureeveryonehearsthenfollowtherulesinvolved.

    3.3.1. TimeOutThisgenericcallmadewhengameplayneedstobepausedtemporarily.Essentially,itisthepausebuttonin

    thegame.Mostoftenitiscalledbyorganiserstointroducesomethingordescribesomethingthattheplayers

    canseeortoclarifyasituation.Playersmayusetocalltopausegametimetogetsomeclarityfroman

    organiseraboutaparticularsituationorobject.Thiscallcanalsobeusedtopausegameplaytopreventsome

    outofgamedanger,i.e.someonerunningbackwardsisabouttotripoveralogetc.

    3.3.2. TimeFreezeThiscallismadebyorganisersonlywhensomethingishappeninginthebackgroundthatplayersdonotknow

    about.Playersmustclosetheireyesandhumasongsotheycannotseeorhearwhatishappeningaround

    them.Thiscallalsopausestimeingame.

    StargateInternational? Wellyouvecometotherightsectionontherulebookthen!Creatingacharacteris

    simplewhetheryouareaseasonedproornewbeginner!Itmighttakesomegettingusedtothewayyou

    game

    world

    but

    that

    you

    will

    learn

    with

    time.

    For

    now

    lets

    follow

    a

    simple

    step

    bystepprocessandmakeyouagameworldpersonality.

    Step1Haveaquickperusaloftheskilllist(Page10)andreadthedescriptionsofeachone(Page13).Theywillgiveyouanideaofhoweachskillworksandinwhatsituationsyoucanusethem.There

    areskillsthatyouwillusepassively(mainlyweaponskills),oractivelyinphysicaltests(likephysical

    conditioning,observationorstealth)oractivelyinproblemsolvingoracademictests(likelinguistics

    orbiology).DontmakeanydecisionsyetbutImsuretheideaacharacterconceptisalreadystarting

    toforminyourmind!

    Step2Nowhavealookatthedifferentbackgroundcharactertemplates(Page)thatareavailableandreadtheirdescriptions(Page),pickoutonethatseemsclosesttowhatyouwantyourcharacter

    studyinagivenacademicarea.Howthistranslatesintothegameworld

    issimple.Whendealingwithsomethingthatiswithinyourparticular

    emphasissareaofexpertise,yourmainskillisconsidered1levelhigher

    foreachleveloftheemphasisyouhave.Confused?Whenyouuse

    academicskillsyourskilllevelisappliedagainstaDifficultyCheckorDCasbetterknown.IfaparticularscenariorequiresaparticularbiologyDC

    thenyourcharactersbiologyskilllevelisdirectlycomparedtoitto
