SCENARIO IN THE 70’S

Tough competition from magazines like Filmfare, Star & Style, Picture Post, Film World and sorts.

But these magazines were basically PR magazine (especially filmfare), with elaborate pictures of actresses like WaheedaRehman and Sadhana making sand castles at Juhu beach, with no proper content for the readers to read.

Sold 25,000 copies in 3 days, with cover story Was Rajesh Khanna Secretly Married?

Initially priced at Rs.2, while others were priced at Re.1

The first issue of Stardust magazine was published and a new era of film journalism began: it was snarkier, more gossipy, more intrusive, and a smash hit with readers.

AAMIR KHAN, SEPT’05It was quite a shock when, the then editor of Stardust Sonali Jaffer, came out with details of the illicit relationship between Aamir Khan and British journalist Jessica Hines. The magazine has also published some sensational pictures of this makeshift couple's 'son', though mother of the child insisted that her son had 'no father'!
