Welcome to the StarCraft II World Championship Series

The StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS) is an international StarCraft II tournament organised by Blizzard Entertainment.

It comprises of a four-tiered series of events, with tournaments at the sub-national, national and continental levels taking place throughout 2012.

The competition circuit will culminate in the 2012 Battle.net World Championship in Shanghai, China on November 17 to 18, where the first true StarCraft II global champion will be crowned.

The World Championship Series Singapore Nationals

The WCS Singapore Nationals will be held at Funan DigitaLife Mall on July 28 and 29. It is the only national-level event to be held in Southeast Asia in 2012.

A total of 64 players will compete for a piece of the US$10,000 cash prize pool. The champion will win US$4,000 in cash and be seeded into the WCS Asian Continental Finals, which will be held in China in the month of October. Flight and accommodation for the champion’s participation in the Asian Finals will be fully paid for.

The first day of the event (July 28) will feature all 64 players competing to proceed to the top 16 in a single elimination, best-of-three format.

The final day of the event (July 29) will feature the top 16 players competing for the top spot in a double elimination, best-of-three format.

Prize Distribution

Blizzard Entertainment has decided to provide prizes for all participants who place in the top 16 for national-level events. For the participants of the WCS Singapore Nationals, the prizes provided are:

• 1st: US$4,000 and a sponsored trip to participate in the WCS Asian Continental Finals • 2nd: US$2,000 • 3rd: US$900 • 4th: US$500 • 5th to 8th: US$300 each • 9th to 16th: US$200 each

Location and Venue

The WCS Singapore Nationals will be held at the Main Atrium of Funan DigitaLife Mall. The shopping mall is located at 109 North Bridge Road, Singapore 179097, a 5-minute walk from City Hall MRT Station.

Admissions

The event is open to the public from 10:00 am each day. There will be no admission or registration fees for both participants and the public.

About the Organiser

The WCS Singapore Nationals is organised by the Electronic Sports League (ESL), the largest online esports league in the world with 4 million registered members and more than 800,000 registered teams. ESL offers more than 3,500 professional and amateur leagues and ladders for a variety of games, and nearly 400,000 matches re played worldwide every month using ESL technology.The ESL website currently receives 2.5 million unique visitors a month, with 35,000 new player signups each month.

ESL has been operated by Turtle Entertainment GmbH since 2000.

For the Public

Besides watching the tournament matches, members of the public can view the latest in gaming, computer hardware and internet services.

Event Highlights

Diablo III

Asiasoft Online Pte Ltd will be organising a casual Diablo III event at the WCS Singapore Nationals right beside the Starcraft II Tournament Area, where members of the public can experience doing dungeon runs together with a friend or a stranger in Diablo III.

Participants will receive an event gift as well as a chance to submit their names for a lucky draw to win exclusive prizes.

The Diablo III event is open to the public, and there will be 16 computers available for at least eight pairs of participants to play at one time.

TheScore.SG

TheScore.SG is a boutique PC online retailer. They will be showcasing their flagship custom PCs, the ‘Great White’, which is built with the latest and most powerful hardware available in the consumer market while providing overclocking for all of its hardware.

The Score.SG, who is also the PC partner of the WCS Singapore Nationals, will be providing a showcase and demonstration of their Arena Series of PCs, which are used for the Starcraft II Tournament Area.

Viewqwest Viewqwest will be showcasing their consumer fibre broadband services. Gamers will be especially interested in learning more about the high-end network infrastructure currently being provided by Viewqwest, in collaboration with local and regional gaming publishers in Singapore and South-East Asia.

The fibre internet provider will also be showcasing their gaming package called the Fibernet Raptor Gamer Plan which offers a 50% speedboost in bandwidth speed from 7pm to 7am on weekdays and all-day on weekends.

Viewqwest is the official network partner of the WCS Singapore Nationals. They will be providing a 1Gbits/s network line to serve the tournament’s internet needs.

For Participants

Participants will need to pre-register for the event and confirm their participation by emailing the organiser before July 25. Details of the registration process has been released through community forums, such as TeamLiquid.net and SC2SEA.com, and through No Game No Talk.com, the official media partner of the WCS Singapore Nationals.

On the day of the event, participants must report to the admin booth at 9:00 am to verify their participation in the tournament. A tournament admin will be present to verify your particulars. The admin booth is located directly in front of the Watsons store on the first floor.

Participants are not expected to arrive later than 9.30am to ensure that your participation is verified on time. Any participant who arrives after 10:00am will be immediately disqualified.

Participants can have their meals once their matches are over, but please ensure that you are back on time for your next match that might begin at 10:00am or 3:00pm.

Please inform the tournament admins who are around if you would need to visit the washroom urgently at any point of time so that they can take note of your availability in terms of participating or continuing any matches.

The Top 16 Photo taking is a mandatory event for the top 16 who qualifies on day 1, and will take up 30 to 45 minutes.

Tournament Area

The Tournament Area will feature 20 desktop PCs built by our PC partner, TheScore.SG. Each desktop is a custom-built gaming PC that is overclocked and comes with the latest hardware provided by companies such as AMD, Corsair, Crucial, Antec, Club3D and Gigabyte.

The Tournament Area will be out-of-bounds to the members of the public, and only verified event participants with the ‘Player’ Pass are allowed to enter the tournament area at any point of time.

NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS: • Razer gaming peripherals will be outfitted at all 20 PCs at the event itself for participants

who do not wish to bring their own equipment. • Participants are allowed to use their own peripherals, but only limited to mice, keyboards

and headsets, as well as accessories like mouse bungees or cable wraps. • Participants are allowed to install drivers downloaded directly from the internet. However, a

tournament admin must be informed before installation. Participants are not allowed to install their own drivers without seeking the permission of the tournament administration. If caught doing so, participants will be given a penalty.

Stage

The WCS Singapore Nationals 2012 stage will be feature a 2.8m by 1.6m plasma screen which will broadcast games directly from the commentator’s booth located at the front of the stage.

At the end of the event, the stage will also be used for prize presentations for the winners of the WCS Singapore Nationals.

The prize presentation for the WCS Southeast Asia Finals will also happen on-stage. Finalists from the Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines Qualifiers will be flown down to compete for two seeds to the Asian Continental Finals in China.

Broadcast Schedule

Games will be also streamed to Twitch.TV directly for internet broadcast for both domestic and international audiences watching directly from their PCs or mobile devices.

The stage matches will be broadcasted on Day 2 (July 29) from 12 noon onwards. There will be no matches broadcast for the qualifiers on Day 1 (July 28).

You will be required to list down your contact number, age, full name and your game account details.

Upon completing your registration, please also send an email to [email protected] with the following details :

Once you have completed both signing up and sending the email to confirm your participation, we will drop an official reply to your email as well as sending you an SMS to confirm your event participation.

MAP SELECTION PROCEDURE 1. Tournament administration team will do a coin toss to determine which player will be Player

1 and Player 2 before each match starts. 2. Player 1 vetoes 1 map out of 7 maps in the map pool. 3. Player 2 vetoes 1 map out of 6 maps left in the map pool 4. Player 1 vetoes 1 map out of 5 maps left in the map pool 5. Player 2 vetoes 1 map out of 4 maps left in the map pool 6. Player 1 picks the first game map out of 3 maps left in the map pool 7. Player 2 picks the second game map out of 2 maps left in the map pool. 8. 1 map left in the map pool will be the third game map. 9. The first game will be created by Player 1 and the winner of each game will create the next

Player Pass/Staff Pass

• All participants are expected to collect their player passes before they enter the tournament

area, during their registration verification. • Participants who are not wearing their player pass will be denied access to the tournament

area. • No replacements will be provided for the Player Pass, so please do not lose it at any point of

time. • Lanyards will be provided for the player passes so that players can wear it during the

tournament period.

o All event staff/tournament admins will be wearing ‘Staff’ passes. Please contact any staff should you have any problems or inquiries so that they can assist you on it.
