keep In mind…After losing seniors Kenny Brown, Anthony Goods, Mitch Johnson and Lawrence Hill to graduation, this year’s club will look considerably different. Landry Fields, Emmanuel

Igbinosa and Drew Shiller are the team’s three seniors, while juniors Da’Veed Dildy and Josh Owens return for their third seasons. Transfer Andrew Zimmermann joins a six-member sophomore class that includes Elliott Bullock, Matei Daian, Jeremy

Green, Jarrett Mann and Jack Trotter. Freshmen Andy Brown and Gabriel Harris round out the squad.

Four players have changed uniform numbers. After sporting No. 51 last season, Elliott Bullock becomes the first player to wear No. 40 since Pete Van Elswyk during the 1997-98 campaign. Matei Daian switches from No. 52 to No. 15, inheriting the number worn by Lawrence Hill. Jarrett Mann moves from No. 3 to No. 22, taking over for Kenny Brown. Finally, Jeremy Green jumps from No. 5 to No. 45, last donned by Mark Madsen in 1999-00.

The three-point bucket again figures to be a key for Stanford in 2009-10. The Cardinal is coming off a season that included 249 three-pointers, the club’s best total in eight years and third-most in school history. With capable long-range bombers like seniors Landry Fields (32-87, 36.8 percent in 2008-09) and Drew Shiller (14-40, 35 percent in 2008-09) joining sophomore Jer-emy Green (47-103, 45.6 percent in 2008-09), the Cardinal will once again look to incorporate strong perimeter play into its offensive philosophy.

After its home opener against Cal Poly on Nov. 15, Stanford continues its homestand on Nov. 18 against Oral Roberts. That contest, along with a

Nov. 21 date against Florida A&M, is part of the 2009 Cancun Challenge. Stanford will be playing regular season games outside the United States for the first time since 2000, when the Cardinal defeated Old Dominion, Memphis and Georgia en route to capturing the Puerto Rico Shootout.

Grouped in the Riviera Division of the Cancun Challenge, Stanford will host Oral Roberts and Florida A&M before facing Virginia

(Nov. 24) in its first game at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun. Stanford’s second game in Cancun will feature a matchup against either Kentucky,

led by first-year head coach John Calipari, or Cleveland State, a 26-win club that upset No. 4 seed Wake Forest in last year’s NCAA Tourna-

ment first round.

Stanford owned a 14-4 record at home in 2008-09 and reached the 10-win mark at Maples Pavilion for the 16th con-

secutive year. The Cardinal is 30-5 in its last 35 home games over the last two seasons and will need to duplicate that kind of success on its home court again this year. Seven of Stanford’s first 12 games will be played at Maples Pavilion, highlighted by a Dec. 16 matchup against Oklahoma State in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

three to watch In 2009-10…Senior Landry FieldsFields is the lone team captain and returning leading scorer. Fields enjoyed a breakthrough junior season in which he led the club in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and steals (42), finished third in scoring (12.6 ppg) and connected on 49.8 percent of his attempts from the floor. A solid weapon from the perim-eter (36.8 percent) as well, Fields scored in double-figures 24 times while notching five double-doubles. Fields was impressive in summer workouts, highlighted by earning Co-MVP honors of the San Francisco Bay Area Pro-Am.

Sophomore Jeremy GreenThe Cardinal coaching staff is hoping Green simply picks up where he left off. A Pac-10 All-Freshman Team honoree in 2009, Green played in all 34 games, averaged 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 45.6 percent from three-point territory. But he really caught fire late in the year and eventually became a focal point of the offense. Over the final 10 games of the year, Green averaged 7.4 points in just over 15 minutes per game while shooting 52.1 percent overall and 50 percent from long distance. Included in that batch of games was a career-best 22-point effort at Arizona in which he finished 8-15 from the field and knocked down six three pointers in 23 minutes.

Junior Josh Owens Owens will headline the Cardinal front-court and look to build on his sophomore campaign. After seeing limited action as a rookie, Owens played in every game last year while making 28 starts as Stanford’s primary post option. An athletic center with a penchant for delivering thunderous dunks, Owens aver-aged 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 56.1 percent from the field to rank fifth best in the Pac-10 in that category. Owens scored in double-figures eight times during the year, including a career-high 21-point perfor-mance in a 76-62 victory over Colorado
