Standard First Aid with CPR & AED for Coaches and Trainers When athletes become ill or injured during practice or competition, coaches and athletic trainers need to know how to respond. Whether on the ice, on the field, at the pool, or in the gym, coaches and trainers must be prepared to handle the common injuries and illnesses they will likely encounter while coaching their sport. Sports First Aid with CPR and AED course cover basic life support but the focus is on managing incidents and competently assessing whether a casualty should be returning to activity or not. In particular, incidents including asthma, bleeding, bone, muscle or joint injuries, head injuries, as well as chest pains and resuscitation will all be covered. Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas: Legalities Disease Management & Biohazards The Emergency Medical Services System Scene Management Head Injuries and Concussions Spine and Pelvic Injuries Bleeding Management and Shock Cardiovascular Emergencies Sudden Medical Conditions Airway and Breathing Emergencies CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) AED training Secondary Survey Musculoskeletal Injuries Burns Poisons, Substance Abuse and Misuse Environmental injuries and illnesses Certifications This course is approved federally by Human Resources Skills & Development Canada (HRSDC) and provincially by each applicable WSIB/WCB. It is also recognized by Hockey Canada HTCP as level II trainers certiication equivalency. The certiication is valid for three (3) years from the date of course. Registration Spaces are limited.
