November 2015
Dear Breeder
Only a handful of stallions in Europe can command a fee of £20,000 or more and demand for them is currently incredibly strong. As a result, fees for many of these elite stallions have increased significantly for 2016. At the same time competition between stallions standing around £10,000 and below has never been stronger, with the result that stallion masters have had to cut their cloth accordingly.
For those using these more affordable stallions, the commercial risk remains high. A nice colt might provide a good financial return, but a filly foal might result in financial loss. It is for this reason that we have introduced our scheme to breeders for 2016. It aims to give some insurance to the commercial breeder and we feel it offers fantastic value.
The scheme applies to Equiano and Mount Nelson. Equiano has had a fantastic year. He has produced 23 juvenile winners and another five black-type two-year-olds, including the Gr.3 and Listed winner, Fly On The Night and the Listed winner, Waipu Cove. Equiano was at his best as an older horse, so it has been no surprise to see his three-year-olds progress this season. Equiano is the only sire with two of the top ten three-year-old sprinters in Europe in Strath Burn and The Tin Man.
Mount Nelson has had another solid year and remains an underrated stallion. With 23 Group or Stakes horses already to his name and consistently producing two and three-year-old Group performers including Holy Moly, Palawan and Weltmacht this season, we feel he is great value at £5,000. His colts continue to be well received and if his fillies are less commercial, then our new scheme seeks to address that.
Finally, the response to Nathaniel’s first yearlings has been fantastic. I never dreamt that first his foals and then his yearlings would be so well received. For his yearlings to average £130,000 (6½ times his stud fee) by the end of the October sales was especially rewarding. His stock are strong, attractive and athletic and more than that they have a great attitude. With fees rising fast at the top of the market he appears to be good value at £20,000 and is an exciting prospect.
As ever, we remain tremendously grateful to the continued support of breeders to our relatively young stallion operation.
We look forward to helping you breed your next Group winner!

Qatar Vintage Stakes Gr.2, 3rd Denford Stud Stakes L
Weltmacht High-class filly – won a Stakes race in 2015, and was 2nd in the Diana Trial Gr.2
We have had many nice Mount Nelson’s, they are honest, sound and precocious. Palawan is a typical example, a Stakes horse at two years who will develop into an extremely smart three-year-old and beyond. Richard Hannon
Berkshire is the second best I have seen behind Generous. He is a very serious horse. Ollie Cole
Holy Moly was a very talented race filly, and it was no surprise when she won a Stakes race on only her third start. Sadly she had a career ending injury when just touched off in Group 2 company on her next run. She was destined for the top. Andreas Wohler

Nathaniel was second to Frankel on his first start and third to Frankel on their last starts, so they had similar careers. Both horses are by Galileo which is interesting, but Nathaniel looks to have had a good start. Lord Grimthorpe, Juddmonte Farms, purchased the filly ex Our Queen Of Kings for 600,000gns at Tattersalls October Book 1
The Nathaniel’s I’ve seen I’ve liked and he was a high-class horse with stamina, which is exactly what we need. This colt should have a bit of speed, being out of a Danehill mare and Nathaniel’s trainer rated him very highly. Angus Gold, Shadwell Estate Co, purchased the colt ex Tesary for £190,000 at DBS Premier Sales
He is a great-moving and athletic horse who will stay in France. I like Nathaniel a lot as a sire and his progeny that I have seen have impressed me very much. Charlie Gordon-Watson, purchased the colt ex Albastrine for €200,000 at Arqana
Nathaniel impressed as a racehorse and I’ve been impressed with his foals and yearlings. We have bought a number of them. John Ferguson
As I started the yearling inspections it became evident that Nathaniel was producing significant looking stock. The prices they achieved indicate that he may just have all the ingredients to become a serious prospect in the near future. John Warren
