Stifford Clays Primary School Early Years Foundation Stage Newsletter 6 th July 2018 Seedlings: Alexi Crooks Alexi, you are already starting to make some new friends at nursery. You are able to join in with their imaginative games. You have a lovely smile on your face and enjoy playing and exploring whilst your at nursery. Well done Alexi! We’re so proud of you. Saplings: Jacob Patston For being such a wonderful helper in Saplings this week. You have worked hard to help Mrs Roberts to pick up the toys from the floor and put them where they belong. You have been tidying up all week, without anyone even asking you to. Fabulous! You have also been helping Mrs Roberts do the register-telling her if the children are here and then helping her count them all. Well done Jacob! Keep up the good work! Saplings: George Niland For helping Mrs Roberts remind the children about the Nursery rules. You told them to use their listening ears and their walking feet. Well done, George! You also reminded the children about Chomp and told them that he was good at being honest. Then we all had a talk about how important that was. Wow! You are so clever to remember that, George. Thank you! Holly: Vinnie Tatham For your attitude to challenges. This week, you have been determined to reach the monkey bars on your own. You have used lots of problem-solving skills and tried lots of different methods. You were so proud of yourself when you found a way that worked. Well done, Vinnie. Hazel: Bobby Taylor For your determination and creative ideas when trying to move one of the logs in the outside classroom. Bobby, you wanted to turn over one of the logs that is stuck fast in the ground so, working with your friend, you decided to use water to soften the ground to release the log. When that did not work you used trowel to dig around the outside. You were there for such a long time but the log is still stuck. What other ideas do you have to move it? I know you want to see what bugs are hiding underneath! Pine: Connor Record You and your friends were bug hunting in the outside classroom. You went over to the den and wanted to lift the wooden stump, I explained that I couldn’t lift it because it was stuck in the ground. You had come up with an idea to solve the problem, you went and got some water and started pouring it over the dirt, you said “The water will make it unstick so we can get it out.” You worked together with your friends and shared your ideas with each other. Well done Connor! Headteacher Awards

There IS a butterfly there! We promise.

This week, the children made their own stories and acted them out themselves!

Reminder for Nursery parents Could you please remember to return your Nursery Home Observation sheet as soon as you can? Thank you.

Yoimoji As we enter the final half-term of the year, (When did that happen?!) you can support your child to achieve their Yoimoji cards by sharing examples of them being kind, brave, independent, curious, honest and patient. Feel free to jot this down on a piece of paper so we can share it with the class.

Reading Books in Reception Next week, we will begin collecting in reading books in Reception. If you know you have books at home, please take a break from the sun and have look for them this weekend. The children will still have access to Bug Club to continue reading at home.

Reception This Week In Reception this week, we have been creating our own stories using our fairy-tale formulas. Some of us have tweaked familiar stories, such as Goldilocks climbing the beanstalk, and some of us have created completely new worlds. Chocolate-land and Lollipop-land sound delicious. We talked about the setting, our characters, the problem in our stories and the solutions.

Nursery This Week Our focus this week has been transition. All the children have visited their new classes and spent time with their new teacher. They’ve all been very excited and positive and have thoroughly enjoyed exploring their new classrooms. Well done, everyone!

Seedlings Parents Seedlings parents have all received a letter containing information about the new Nursery building for next year. For Saplings parents, a summary of the information is that…… we will be having a new Nursery building at Stifford Clays! It will be constructed during the summer holidays and stretching in to the first half term of Autumn. We are very excited! It means that in September, Nursery will have a temporary home in the Training Room in the main school. This room was originally built as a Nursery and has all the facilities a Nursery needs. We will be in our new ‘temporary home’ up till half term in the Autumn term and then we will be able to move in to our new building by the beginning of November at the latest. In order to prepare for this major event, Nursery staff are beginning to organise our resources ready for next year. We are in the process of categorising the resources and redistributing them, ready for ‘The Move.’ Rest assured that our enabling environment remains our priority, along with continuing to maintain high levels of well-being and involvement for all our children in Nursery.

The weather! Please remember to put sunscreen on your child before they come to school and send them to school with a named sun hat. Thank you.
