3.2 Construction Procedure
1. First, prepare all the materials required to construct a mouse trap car.
2. Attach the provided wooden snap-back mousetrap onto the wood plank
(40cm*1cm*4cm) using nails and hammer according to preference.
3. Use a utility knife to cut two designed front wheels(diameter of 6cm) out of a piece of
the foam board(15cm*15cm*0.5cm) and two designed rear wheels out of the foam
board(40cm*40cm*0.5cm). Make the back wheels about 2.33 double the diameter of
the front wheels and file the edges to make then even and smoother.
4. Using rubber bands around each wheel to give some traction. Glue them to the wheels
to prevent the rubber bands from slipping off.
5. In the center of the front wheels, drill a hole, which is 2.0cm in diameter. Whereas, in
the center of the rear wheels, drill a hole, which is 2.0cm in diameter.
6. Take a hemp rope and tie it very tightly to the snapper arm on the mousetrap. The
other end of the hemp rope is tied into a loop and should be long enough to just reach
to the back axle.
7. Use the steel rod (10cm*2cm*2cm) as front axle and pass through the front wheels,
whereas use the steel rod (16cm*2cm*2cm) as rear axle and pass through the rear
wheels, For the rear axle, place the bobbin in the middle of the rear axle to increase the
efficiency of the wheels’ rotation.
8. Raise the snapper arm to make the mousetrap car operational. For this, the hemp
rope’s looped end is placed over the bobbin at the rear axle. Holding the hemp rope
tightly, set the car on the ground and carefully let go of the trap. The hemp rope should
be tight enough that it can hold the trap in place. Next, make sure everyone's hands are
out of the way and then let go of the hemp rope .As the result, the mousetrap will snap
forward, propelling the vehicle.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/stage-1-document-and-company-profile 19/30
3.3 Distance Prediction Of Mousetrap Car
Length of string = (Length of fishing line + Lever arm length)
= (230+8) cm
= 71cm
Diameter of axle = 2cm
Circumference of axle = = 6.28cm
Diameter of back wheel = 14cm
Circumference of back wheel = = 43.98cm
No. of revolution of axle = 230 / 6.28
= 36
No. of revolution of back wheel = 36
Distance travelled = (36) (43.98) = 1583.36cm
According to the calculation, the model of the mousetrap vehicle is predicted to move
1583.36cm in distance.
8/9/2019 Stage 1 Document and Company Profile
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/stage-1-document-and-company-profile 20/30
3.4 Prediction of Velocity and Acceleration Through
Calculation:
Time Taken,t : 7.0 s
Distance,s : 15 m
Initial Velocity,u : 0 m/s
s = ut + 1/2at2
15 = 0(8.0) + ½(a) (7.0)2
a = 0.61m/s2
∴The acceleration of our mouse trap car for the first 15m is 0.61m/s2.
v = u + at
v = 0 + 0.61(7.0)
v = 4.27 m/s
∴The velocity of our mouse trap car for the first 15m is 4.27 m/s.
8/9/2019 Stage 1 Document and Company Profile
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/stage-1-document-and-company-profile 21/30
3.5 Specifications Of The Mousetrap Car
Specifications of Mousetrap Car prototype are as followed:
Dimension : 340mm (length) x 160mm (width) x 230mm (height)
Weight : 525g
Minimum travelling speed: 1200mm
General components : wooden snap-back mousetrap, wood planks and foam boards
Some of the additional specifications that are equipped with our Mousetrap Car:
i. The sole energy for propulsion must be mousetrap.
ii. The mousetrap vehicle must be able to travel at a minimum speed of 1200mm on
a single recharge.
iii. The mousetrap vehicle must travel as fast and as far as possible.

7.0 Disposal Plan
Our company emphasizes eco-friendly in all of our projects. We planned before
we dispose in order to ensure that our disposal method will not pollute the environment.
In our mouse trap vehicle project, we implemented recycle and reuse method in our
disposal plan.
In this mousetrap vehicle project, we use recyclable materials, such as wood
planks, chopsticks, mouse trap, iron nails and so on. The wood planks and chopsticks can
be recycled into paper. Iron nails and mouse trap can be melted into metal and used for
other purposes.
It is not easy to dispose PVA glue because it contains harmful chemicals.
Therefore, PVA glue can be kept for later use. It can be reused for other projects.
Recycle and reuse methods can reduce the amount of rubbish. This can prevent
the environment been polluted and save the landfill space.
