Why do we need Mental Health Nurses?
• The World Health Organisation forecast that by 2020 depression will be the second leading contributor to the global burden of disease.
• Each year 1/4 adults in Britain experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem.
• Annually 13.3 million working days are lost to stress, depression and anxiety.
• People with dementia account for 25% of all NHS beds.
• At least 30% of GP consultations are for a mental health problem but this is the tip of the iceberg as many people never seek help and only 25% of common mental illnesses are treated at all.

Which university to apply to
BA and PGCE
Trainees on all programmes have to meet the same Teacher Standards, so the programmes offered by HEIs are similar.
Applicants should look at the ‘extras’ that the university offers, e.g. at Middlesex, trainees can follow a subject specialism in English, mathematics or SEND (BA only). Trainees may do a placement in a SEND school. BA trainees can spend their final term abroad.
BA applicants should look at the NSS results for programmes/ universities that interest them, e.g. the latest result for BA Primary at Mdx is 86%, for Roehampton 83% and St Mary’s Twickenham 80%
