� Close to 3.8 million patrons attended events at Stadiums Queensland venues over the year;

� Stadiums Queensland continued to achieve savings in water consumption. When compared to the Queensland Water Commission’s (QWC) base line year 2004/2005, Stadiums Queensland has reduced its annual water consumption by 214ML or 60%;

� On 2 January 2009, the $82 million Queensland Tennis Centre was officially opened by the Premier, the Hon. Anna Bligh MP;

� The Queensland Tennis Centre hosted the first major tennis tournament in Queensland in more than a decade – the Brisbane International;

� In February the Premier announced Stadiums Queensland would take ownership of its ninth major sporting facility. A redeveloped Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast which will accommodate the Australian Football League’s 17th national team;

� Dairy Farmers Stadium and Skilled Park will accommodate a full year program of events for the first time following the introduction of two new Hyundai A-League football teams;

� The final stage of the Suncorp Stadium redevelopment, the Caxton Roma pedestrian link, was completed in 2008; and

� The official attendance figure at Suncorp Stadium since the venue was redeveloped in 2003 passed 5 million patrons.

Chairman’s Report

It is with great pleasure, as Chairman of Stadiums Queensland, that I present the 2008/09 Annual Report.

As Chairman, I would like to acknowledge the contribution over the past 12 months of each of the Stadiums Queensland Directors, namely Mr Geoffrey Trivett, Mr Michael Harvey, Ms Susie O’Neill OAM, Mr Peter Johansen, Ms Sophie Devitt and Mr David Hanna.

During this period, Stadiums Queensland has continued to grow and, with the addition of the Queensland Tennis Centre to its portfolio of venues, Stadiums Queensland now owns eight major sports facilities and is responsible for assets in excess of $1.3 billion.

This year has been one where many milestones have been achieved.

the Queensland tennis CentreOn 2 January 2009, the $82 million Queensland Tennis Centre was officially opened by the Premier, the Hon. Anna Bligh MP. The opening was followed by the first major tennis tournament in Queensland in more than a decade – the Brisbane International.

More than 65,000 people attended the Brisbane International, marking a resurgence of the sport in Queensland.

Tennis now has a home in Queensland and since its commissioning in January 2009, the Centre has become the venue of choice as the training base for our elite athletes due to their being able to access clay, grass and hardcourts, all on one site. When not being used by players for training or for tournaments, these courts are available to the general public. Recognition needs to be given to Mirvac, which constructed the facility, Ashley Cooper, the then President of Tennis Queensland, and the Board and officials of Tennis Queensland and Tennis Australia, in bringing this wonderful facility to fruition.

new teams 2009/10In 2009, two of our existing regional stadia, Dairy Farmers Stadium and Skilled Park, will accommodate a full year program of events for the first time following the introduction of two new Hyundai A-League football teams.

Stadiums Queensland congratulates the North Queensland Fury, based in Townsville, and the Gold Coast United Football Club on their admission to the Hyundai A-League and welcomes them to our stadia.

Caxton Roma pedestrian linkThe final piece of the $280 million Suncorp Stadium, the Caxton Roma pedestrian link, was completed in 2008. The $12 million walkway now makes it easier for thousands of people walking from the CBD to events at Suncorp Stadium and offers improved access for people with a disability who attend the venue.

The walkway is also an integral part of the redevelopment of the Barracks Precinct which, with its cafes, shops and cinemas, has breathed new life into the area surrounding Suncorp Stadium. Stadiums Queensland thanks QM Properties and Property Solutions for their cooperation throughout the process of design of the precinct and in its operation on event day. This walkway has delivered a vibrant civic space which has improved connectivity between the city and the stadium, as envisaged in the precinct plan prepared by the City West Task Force.


5 million patrons at Suncorp StadiumSuncorp Stadium reached a major milestone this year when the official attendance figure edged past 5 million patrons since the redeveloped venue opened in 2003.

There have been many exciting moments in Suncorp’s history that stand out including the Rugby World Cup in 2003, world renowned music acts such as Robbie Williams, the Police and Andre Rieu, famous Queensland State of Origin victories and memorable Socceroos internationals as part of the FIFA World Cup qualifying rounds.

I would like to thank Suncorp-Metway Limited for its continued support of the venue. Stadiums Queensland values this partnership and welcomes the decision taken by Suncorp-Metway Limited to extend its naming rights of the iconic stadium for a further two years.

Dairy Farmers Stadium upgradesStadiums Queensland continued to upgrade Dairy Farmers Stadium through a program of progressive improvements. This year the venue added six new outdoor corporate boxes taking the corporate capacity of the stadium to 1,754 people in 128 outdoor boxes, 12 internal suites, and corporate function spaces.

The capital works program also included an expansion of the concourse areas in the Eastern grandstand, major upgrades to food outlets and toilet facilities and refurbishments to venue offices.

Redevelopment of Gold Coast StadiumThe next 12 months will see work commence on the redevelopment of the existing Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara to accommodate the Australian Football League’s newest team, the 17th national team. The opportunity to provide a home for the new Gold Coast team comes about because of funding contributions by the Queensland Government ($60M), the Commonwealth Government ($36M), the Gold Coast City Council ($20M) and the AFL ($10M),

The stadium will comprise 23,500 seats with standing room for a further 1,500 patrons and is expected to be ready for use during the 2011 AFL season. The new AFL team is expected to inject around $340 million into the local economy over the next 10 years. The venue will also be able to accommodate cricket and athletics (with appropriate overlays) once complete.

AcknowledgementsOn behalf of the Stadiums Queensland Board, I would like to acknowledge the support Stadiums Queensland received from the former Minister for Sport, the Hon. Judy Spence MP. Her contribution in respect of the ongoing development of our major sporting and entertainment facilities was greatly appreciated.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Minister for Sport, the Hon Phil Reeves MP. The Board and I look forward to continuing to work with the Minister to further enhance the quality of our facilities so as to maintain their reputation as being amongst the best in the world for showcasing elite sport and entertainment.

I thank our venue hirers for their continued support and for their efforts in promoting our great stadia to the world. I also thank the staff of Stadiums Queensland (and our operating partners, AEG-Ogden at Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre) for the committment they make in ensuring our venues are presented as quality facilities for each and every event .

Finally I thank the Premier of Queensland, the Hon Anna Bligh MP for her ongoing efforts in promoting the value of the State investing in sporting and entertainment facilities and for achievements in positioning Queensland as the sporting and entertainment capital of Australia.

Chief executive’s Report

The 2008/09 financial year proved challenging yet ultimately successful for Stadiums Queensland.

Our challenges arose from two unexpected and unprecedented events.

The first challenge was a climatic episode in November when an intense storm damaged a portion of the Gabba roof just hours before the first ball was to be bowled in the Australia v New Zealand International Test match. Several sections of fabric roofing were torn, and 12 of the supporting roof trusses damaged.

It is in circumstances such as these that an organisation’s systems are put to the test. It is pleasing to report that the operating procedures and risk management systems we, as an organisation, have progressively developed over the past eight years proved up to the task. All systems require people to make them work, and as a result of the co-operation of all parties to mobilise the necessary resources and expertise, the first ball of the Test was bowled as soon as the wicket had dried out enough for the umpires to commence play. Stadiums Queensland acknowledges and appreciates the contribution of all those who played a part in the prompt and effective response to this incident including Gabba staff, Watpac (the stadium building contractor), engineering consultants, Queensland and Australian cricket officials, venue caterer

Michael O’Brien, the Queensland Police Service, Emergency Services and the insurers. As a consequence of their efforts, the game on the field was able to proceed unaffected by the carnage left by that extreme storm event.

It is important to acknowledge the co-operation received from spectators attending the Test match. The goodwill extended by cricket patrons, when it was necessary to relocate them to enable the clean up to proceed, was greatly appreciated. Similarly, thanks is due to our neighbours, the East Brisbane State School and adjacent businesses for their co-operation as we set about the clean up and the task of repair. The support received by the Brisbane Lions Board, management and fans for their patience and understanding as repairs to the roof continued into the first half of the AFL season is also appreciated.

The testing undertaken following this extreme weather event confirmed the Gabba roof remains structurally sound and work is now well progressed in replacing damaged trusses and reinstating fabric roofing.

The second major challenge within the last 12 months was the impact on consumer confidence arising from the global financial crisis. Working with our hirers and stadium service providers, Stadiums Queensland sought to mitigate the effects of the economic downturn through efficient operational practices, optimising the use of its assets, and pursuing new business opportunities.


The impacts of such a severe economic downturn on the sporting franchises, and others who use Stadiums Queensland venues. are hopefully lessened to some extent in that our hirers are not required to make a contribution to the costs of servicing the loans taken out to build the quality venues which showcase their events. This relieves the hirers of a considerable overhead, and is only possible because of the support the Queensland Government provides to Stadiums Queensland in the form of funding to meet these loan repayments. In addition, some $27 million was expended in capital works, which included a package of upgrades at Dairy Farmers Stadium and major refurbishments to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. The installation of water harvesting infrastructure and water efficiency devices across all venues was also funded as part of the capital works program.

Stadiums Queensland appreciates the support it receives from its Minister, the Hon Phil Reeves MP. Mr Reeves was appointed Minister for Sport in February 2009 and since that time has been actively engaged in working with Stadiums Queensland to increase utilisation of our assets, and their ongoing development as world class venues.

The contribution of the former Minister for Sport, the Hon Judy Spence MP (2007 – 2009) is also acknowledged. Her support of Stadiums Queensland in its quest to improve the facilities at its venues was greatly appreciated.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the Stadiums Queensland Board and express appreciation for the valuable contribution each Director makes to the governance of this dynamic and expanding enterprise.

I would also like to thank our dedicated staff, the staff of AEG Ogden (who operate Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on behalf of Stadiums Queensland) and Tennis Queensland which operates the Queensland Tennis Centre under a lease arrangement with Stadiums Queensland. The commitment of Stadiums Queensland staff and our venue operators to the service of the almost 3.8 million patrons who attended our eight sporting and entertainment facilities in the past year is appreciated. It is important to acknowledge the part played by the many contractors and partners we work with who also make a valuable contribution to the overall operation of our venues and the successful conduct of events.

The coming year will bring with it new challenges, however Stadiums Queensland is well placed to respond to changes within the sporting and entertainment industry and is looking forward to another year of growth as it commences the construction of its ninth venue - a new stadium at Carrara which will be home to the Gold Coast AFL team which is scheduled to enter the AFL Premiership competition in 2011.

The Board is responsible for the overall corporate governance of the organisation. It sets Stadium Queensland’s strategic direction within the parameters set down by legislation applicable to the organisation and determines the policies and practices that govern its day-to-day operations.

Wayne Christopher MYERS (Chairperson)

Wayne Myers has worked in the IT&T industry for over 30 years. He has held senior management positions in large national and multinational companies such as NEC Australia Pty Ltd, AT&T Australia Ltd, Lucent Technologies Australia Pty Ltd and AAPT Ltd.

Wayne was previously a Trustee of the Lang Park Trust and Chairman of the Queensland Government’s Communication and Information Advisory Board.

Wayne is also a Director of Ergon Energy Corporation Ltd and John Paul College Ltd. He has been Chairperson since 2003.

Geoffrey Donald TRIVETT

Geoff Trivett is Managing Director of G D Trivett & Associates Pty Ltd, a leading Queensland valuation and property consultancy company which he commenced some 30 years ago. Prior to starting his own business, Geoff was the Managing Director of the Queensland office of the Baillieu Group, now Knight Frank. Geoff continues to have a keen interest in cricket, golf and football and was presented with the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to cricket.

Michael HARVEY

Michael Harvey has an extensive legal career with over 34 years of experience in Queensland. Michael is currently Partner/Principal of law firm Elliott and Harvey with offices in Upper Mount Gravatt, Brisbane.

Michael has served on the Board of Directors of Credicorp Finance Pty Ltd and was a founding Board member and trustee of the Credit Union Australia Members Benefit Friendly Society (Credicare).

Michael has an extensive involvement with sport, serving as President of the Mount Gravatt Sporting and Workers Club and his firm has acted as legal advisor to the Sunnybank Rugby Union Club, and advisor to the Capalaba Sports Club and the Clayfield Bowls Club. Michael was an active Rugby Union player with Wests Bulldogs prior to commencing his legal career.

Susie O’NEILL OAM

Susie O’Neill is regarded as one of Australia’s greatest ever swimmers. Susie won medals at three successive Olympic games, with 8 medals in total including 2 gold medals. Her gold medals came in the 200 m butterfly at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 200 m freestyle in Sydney in 2000.

Susie achieved consistent success at all other major championship events, where she won 15 Commonwealth Games medals, 4 World Championship medals and 4 Pan Pacific Championship medals. Just as successful in her home country, Susie was a dominant figure at national titles, her total of 35 making her the most prolific title winner in the history of the Australian National Swim Titles.

Susie is the mother of two children and balances this with sponsor, charity and media commitments.

Peter JOHANSEN

Peter Johansen has extensive experience in the aviation industry, serving as a senior corporate manager with Qantas Airways Limited in a career spanning more than 30 years. In that time Peter was involved with a number of key initiatives, including the implementation of the Qantas on-line corporate booking service and the development of the Qantas Travel Show in Queensland. Currently, he is a Senior Relationship Manager with investment services group Tynan Mackenzie.

Peter is an active community member, serving as Chairman of the St Paul’s Anglican School Foundation Board from 1994 to 1998 where he implemented the International School. He is currently a member of the Mater Foundation Major Gifts Committee.


Sophie DEVITT

Sophie Devitt is a Senior Associate at law firm DLA Phillips Fox. She has been an integral part of growing the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team over the past 7 years. Sophie specialises in professional indemnity litigation and risk management and assessment, advising national and international clients in the property, financial services and insurance industries.

Throughout her legal career, Sophie has led a number of pro bono projects providing legal assistance through programs such as the Homeless Peoples’ Legal Clinic and the Self Representative Legal Clinic.

Sophie has a keen interest in tennis, all codes of football and cricket.

David HANNA

David Hanna is currently Assistant State Secretary for the Australian Building Construction Employees and Builders Labourers Federation (QLD Branch) Union of Employees. This follows almost 20 years of experience in the building industry.

As well as occupying a number of key construction roles throughout his career, David has amassed a strong repertoire of qualifications specialising in occupational health and safety and industrial relations.

� An organisation that works in partnership with sporting bodies, recreational interest groups, the tourism industry, public sector agencies and business to achieve the Government’s policy of developing infrastructure to enhance participation in sport at both the community and elite levels; and

� A flexible, reputable organisation that effectively manages risk.

It sets the organisation’s strategic direction within the parameters set down by legislation applicable to Stadiums Queensland and determines the policies and practices that govern its day-to-day operations.

CommitteesThe Board has established a series of Committees to assist it fulfill its governance responsibilities.

Internal Committees (Committees convened by Stadiums Queensland)

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee comprises Stadiums Queensland’s General Managers and Venue Managers and is chaired by the Chief Executive. The Committee meets fortnightly to ensure a consistent approach to the operations of Stadiums Queensland. It reviews processes and procedures for the effective management of the organisation and to enable it to meet its statutory obligations. It monitors the performance of the organisation and establishes the mechanisms required to manage capital works programs and construction projects. The Committee also performs the role of the Information and Communications Technology Steering Committee.

Venue Committees

The Board has established three venue Committees to consider and oversee venue and operational matters. A number of Board Members sit on each of these Committees. The Chief Executive and nominated senior management personnel attend committee meetings as agenda items dictate. Issues considered at these committee meetings relate mostly to the operations at the respective venues including tenancy agreements, commercial arrangements and the prioritising and monitoring of maintenance and capital works.

Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee

The Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee comprises three Board Members. The Committee is supported by Stadiums Queensland’s Internal Auditor (as provided for under the

obligations of the Financial Administration and Audit Act 1977 and the Financial Management Standard 1997), who provides advice on audit and audit related matters.

The Chief Executive of Stadiums Queensland, General Manager Corporate Services and the Financial Controller attend meetings as observers. This ensures appropriate separation between the Committee as the body responsible for oversight and monitoring corporate governance within Stadiums Queensland and the managers responsible for the administration of the business.

The Committee focuses on strategic risk issues facing Stadiums Queensland and provides advice on the control mechanisms (implemented by management) to protect the organisation’s assets and promote efficient and effective work practices. Officers of the Queensland Audit Office (QAO) attend meetings of the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.

The Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee has due regard for the terms of its charter and Queensland Treasury’s Audit Committee Guidelines in the conduct of its business.

Government Asset Management Arena

Established as a whole-of-government body, the Government Asset Management Arena is a forum for discussion on best practice government asset management. Asset managers from all government agencies and units attend the Arena. Stadiums Queensland’s General Manager Asset Management and Development is a member of this group.

Events Coordination Forum

The Events Coordination Forum is convened by the Department of Premier and Cabinet as a means to communicate and coordinate the whole-of-government approach to attracting a large variety of events to Queensland. Stadiums Queensland’s General Manager Business Development and Marketing is a member of this forum.

Q150

Queensland’s 150th Celebrations in 2009 commemorate Queensland’s independence from New South Wales as a colony. The vision for the celebrations ‘reflect on our past, imagine our future’ will drive the program around the four broad themes of history, people, places and future. The celebratory program incorporates both existing events and new initiatives to generate interest and engage Queenslanders across the State. Stadiums Queensland’s General Manager Business Development and Marketing is a member of this committee.

Suncorp Stadium Management Advisory Committee

A Stadium Management Advisory Committee (SMAC) has been established to fulfil a condition of the Suncorp Stadium Development Approval. Suncorp Stadium’s Chief Executive Officer convenes SMAC on behalf of Stadiums Queensland. This Committee comprises representatives from emergency service agencies, transport providers, Brisbane City Council and community organisations. These meetings enable Stadium Management to receive a range of views regarding the operation of the stadium. Three SMAC meetings were held during the financial year.

Risk ManagementThe identification and proper management of risk is embedded in Stadiums Queensland’s business processes and operating procedures. In addition, Stadiums Queensland has several Committees that address risk management issues:

� Stadiums Queensland’s Executive Committee provides a coordinated approach to the management of risks at the operational level; and

Stadiums Queensland actively supports the Government’s Smart State initiative through work experience and on-the-job training arrangements and internships. In 2008/09, Stadiums Queensland supported individuals from recognised educational and training establishments to gain work experience in the areas of grounds, administration, health and fitness, event administration and event operations.

Cultural DiversityStadiums Queensland acknowledges the importance of developing an inclusive society in which the cultural diversity of its members are recognised and valued. Multicultural influences pervade many of the entertainment, sporting and community events held at Stadiums Queensland’s venues. Explicit acknowledgement is given to cultural influences at such events where these are of particular significance.

ethical procedures, Values and practicesDuring the 2008/09 financial year, Stadiums Queensland met its statutory and regulatory reporting obligations to executive Government and Parliament. During the 2008/09 financial year Stadiums Queensland had no public interest disclosures under the Whistleblowers Protection Act 1994.

Recordkeeping Since its inception in 2001, Stadiums Queensland has been developing administrative systems to meet the requirements of the Queensland Government’s Information Standard 40 – Recordkeeping. During 2009, the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009 were introduced. Stadiums Queensland has taken the necessary steps to ensure compliance with the new legislation.

Recordkeeping improvements which have improved the management of Stadiums Queensland information and records, include:

� Digitisation of incoming correspondence upon receipt;

� Implementation of Stadiums Queensland’s electronic document and records management system (edrms) at all Stadiums Queensland controlled venues.

Skilled Park is a state-of-the-art 27,400 seat stadium on the Gold Coast and is the home ground of the Gold Coast Titans NRL team and the Gold Coast United A-League (soccer) team.

Within the venue are player facilities, administration and event control offices, 101 open corporate boxes, 25 enclosed corporate suites, two 450 person function rooms and 21 food and beverage outlets.

Dairy Farmers Stadium

Dairy Farmers Stadium is the sporting and entertainment hub for the people of North Queensland. It is renowned for its electrifying atmosphere and attracting a range of major events to the region. The 26,500 capacity venue is home to the North Queensland Cowboys National Rugby League (NRL) team and the North Queensland Fury A-League team.

Among the highlights in the stadiums history is the sell-out Elton John concert in 2007, Rugby World Cup matches in 2003, Rugby League World Cup matches in 2008 and of course the many “local derby” clashes between the Cowboys and the Brisbane Broncos NRL Premiership teams.

Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC)


The Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) is a focal point for elite athlete training, development and recovery in Queensland. Home to the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), QSAC includes two international standard running tracks, a 49,000 seat main stadium, a 2,100 seat State Athletics Facility and an eight court beach volleyball complex, “The Beach”.

The venue hosts numerous international, national and local athletics events and school sports carnivals on an annual basis, in addition to outdoor entertainment events such as concerts and Super X.

A new purpose-built facility for elite athletes assists training and recovery, providing the best possible chance of success at the highest level.

Highlights � Since its commissioning prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the QAS Recovery Centre has been used by athletes more than

12,000 times, who have benefitted from the facilities offered by the Centre;

� A number of major national and state athletic events have been held at the venue including the Athletics Australia Cup, the Queensland Track and Field Championships and the National Track and Field Championships;

� The venue hosted the 2008 Australasian Super X Championships, attracting a crowd of 20,000; and

� Some 13,600 people used the publicly available facilities at QSAC for daily training sessions.

Suncorp Stadium

Suncorp Stadium is one of Australia’s best rectangular sports and entertainment venues. The 52,500 seat, venue offers a showcase for Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer and outdoor concerts. The design brings spectators close to the playing field, producing an atmosphere commensurate with the stadium’s reputation as ‘the Cauldron’.

� An upgrade of the Stadium Control Room to improve communications and surveillance and an additional Forward Control Point on Level 7.

The Brisbane Cricket Ground (BCG), affectionately known as the Gabba, is a 42,000 seat oval sports venue which hosts Australian Football League (AFL) and national and international cricket fixtures. The Gabba is an icon of the Brisbane landscape and is the home ground for the Brisbane Lions AFL team and the Queensland Bulls state cricket team. The venue has a range of function and meeting spaces that are used extensively throughout the year.


Highlights � More than 468,000 patrons attended cricket and AFL matches;

� Commencement of the Australia v New Zealand cricket Test close to scheduled time, not withstanding significant damage to part of the Gabba roof due to an extremely severe storm event;

� A total of three AFL matches with crowds in excess of 30,000 with a year best of 34,912 to watch the Brisbane Lions versus Collingwood match in April 2009;

� Average attendance for Brisbane Lions AFL matches was 29,068 per match, an increase of almost 1,000 per match compared with the previous season;

� Hosted the first Twenty20 All Star cricket match between Australia and the All Star team to start the International Cricket season;

� Secured the first Test match of the 2009/10 Summer cricket season against the West Indies and two One Day Internationals involving Australia against both the West Indies and Pakistan;

� Hosted 141 non event day functions attended by more than 23,311 patrons; and

� Installed additional traffic control infrastructure on Stanley Street to enhance patron safety.

Sleeman Sports Complex


Sleeman Sports Complex has been the breeding ground for some of Australia’s most talented and successful athletes. Sleeman provides a training base for Swimming Queensland, Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Diving, Australian Diving and Queensland Diving, Gymnastics, BMX, Badminton, Cycling and Weight Lifting. With facilities that include the 4,300 seat Brisbane Aquatic Centre, a 2,700 seat indoor arena, a 1,500 seat Theatre, an outdoor cycling velodrome with grandstand seating and self-contained accommodation facilities, Sleeman has the capacity to host international, national and community events year round. The Complex also caters for a wide variety of aquatic activities, fitness activities, learn to swim programs and sports medicine activities.

Brisbane entertainment Centre (BeC)

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is one of Australia’s top venues for national and international touring acts. High profile indoor sporting events such as netball, basketball and tennis can also be staged at the venue. The 13,500 seat venue has hosted international performers such as Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, Billy Joel, Coldplay, P!NK and Brooks and Dunn, as well as many national acts including the Wiggles, Powderfinger and Silverchair. The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is operated by AEG Ogden on behalf of Stadiums Queensland.

Highlights � High profile events including Billy Joel, P!NK and Simon and Garfunkel sold out multiple performances. Other International artists

including Neil Young, Kings of Leon, Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder and John Mellencamp performed to big crowds;

� Australian events contributed to another successful year with performances by The Veronicas, So You Think You Can Dance Live, El Caballo Blanco, Monster Trucks and the Creative Generation State Schools on Stage 2009;

� The Anthony Mundine World Title Fight in May 2009 attracted broad media coverage for the Centre and for Brisbane to a national and international audience; and

� A number of capital works projects were completed including the refurbishment of the back of house dressing rooms and an upgrade to the performers’ Green Room.

Queensland tennis Centre

The Queensland Tennis Centre is Australia’s only tennis facility to provide all three Grand Slam court surfaces of clay, grass, and hard-court. In total, 23 international standard courts are available for both tournament and public use. The centre court arena, known as Pat Rafter Arena after one of Queensland’s most successful and popular tennis players, features seating for 5,500 spectators and includes 20 corporate suites, several function spaces and world-class player facilities.

Highlights � An official naming ceremony was held on Thursday 23

October 2008 to announce the Queensland Tennis Centre stadium as “Pat Rafter Arena”;

� The Centre was officially opened by the Premier of Queensland, the Hon. Anna Bligh MP on Friday 2 January 2009;

� The Inaugural Brisbane International attracted 66,024 spectators and a total domestic television audience of 3.45 million viewers; and

� Around 16,000 members of the public used the facility for fixtures, coaching, social court hire and functions since the opening in January 2009.
