Cut the brass rod to about 2 ½ inches in length Either – file the end to a point – or for those who
have no time. . . chuck the rod into a drill and use the drill to spin the rod against a file or sandpaper.
Flatten the unsharpened end of the awl and mark with a center punch
Drill a hole large enough for your chain wire. Sand the edges smooth and polish

Cut a piece of 16 to 18 gauge brass 6 inches long and between ¼ in and 3/8 in wide Put Marks at 0.5in 2.25in, 3in, 3.75in, 5.5 in. Decorate between 0.5in and 2.25in. And between 3.75in and
5.5in. The decorations can be a variety of different stamped or engraved marks.
Drill hole at 2.25in and 3.75in using a small drill bit. The hole needs to be large enough to allow the wire used to string the tools together to easily pass through.
Ear spoon,
Materials required2.75 inches of, 1/8 in brass rod
To aid in the construction of the ear spoons a special tool was made: Go to the hardware store and buy a large bolt. Grind the numbers off the top of the bolt Use a drill and small bit to create a round depression in the top of the bolt. This will form a
small dishing depression. You can also make a rounded punch by sanding a metal rod or bolt.
Cut the brass rod to about 2 ½ inches in length. Flatten both ends of the ear spoon. Using a round punch and the depression in the striking surface, make and then shape the
indentation forming the spoon. Using a file and sand paper, refine the edge around the depression. On the other end of the spoon, mark where you
want a hole with a center punch Drill a hole large enough for your chain wire. Sand the edges smooth and polish
Needle caseThere are two main options for making the needle case. One is to make the brass tube yourself by rolling a piece of brash sheet into a tube. The other option is to buy a piece of brass tubing. These will be described separately.
Cut a piece of brass sheet to between 2 to 3 in long and 2 in wide.
Roll the metal sheet around a rod or a drill bit for instance.
Using the same rod, make a coil of 14 gauge wire consisting of 8 to 10 coils.
Cut the coil in half and place it over the ends of the tube. These coils keep the sheet from unrolling.
Drill two 1/8th in holes in the tube to allow a loop of wire to hang the case from.
Cut a 1 inch length of wire, bend it in half. Place the wire into the holes and reach in with a
screw driver and bend the ends of the wire loop over securing it in place. The case can be filled with lose, unspun wool to hold the needles in place.

Cut a piece of brass tube to between 2 to 3 in long. Using the same rod, make a coil of 14 gauge wire consisting of 8 to 10 coils. Cut the coil in half and place it over the ends of the tube. Insert a dowel into the tube and drill two 1/8th in holes in the tube to allow a loop of wire to hang
the case from. The dowel helps to prevent the pressure of the drill bit from crushing the tube. Cut a 1 inch length of wire, bend it in half. Place the wire into the holes and reach in with a screw driver and bend the ends of the wire loop
over securing it in place. The case can be filled with lose, unspun wool to hold the needles in place.
