Hello Everyone,
MORNING TEA
Today marks the last day of summer although the season maybe over but the hot
weather continues. We are already half way through the term and we welcome the
Preps to full time attendance next week.
A reminder that the school will be closed next
Thursday, 7th March and Friday, 8th March,
for staff professional development.
OSHC Club will not be available due to a lack of demand.
Today we hosted the first of our Morning Teas for parents of the different year levels in the school.
We started with the Year 5/6 parents meeting up in the foyer. We will roll this out to other levels
each month as the year progresses. We believe it is a great opportunity in our busy lives to connect
with other parents in the school and have an even stronger connection to the school and staff.
OPEN MORNINGS / AFTERNOONS
Commencing tomorrow morning we will host our first Open Morning session,
where prospective parents are welcome to tour the school. If you know of any
families looking to send their children to a great school ask them to have a
look on our website for our Open Morning/Afternoon dates. Likewise, if you
have a sibling due to start Prep in 2020, enrolment forms are available from
Carly and Francine in the office.
Next Wednesday parents are invited to join the staff and students at our 9.15 am Mass to celebrate
Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season.

SCHOOL PHOTOS 2019
A reminder to parents and students that school photos will be taken at school on
Tuesday, 12th March. We ask that all students come in their full summer uniform
irrespective if their PE lesson is on this day. If this is the case students are asked
to bring their runners in their school bags to change into.
Photo order envelopes have been sent home and orders can be placed on line. Extra envelopes can
be obtained from the office for sibling photos and families wishing to place individual orders. An
information flyer is attached at the end of the school newsletter.
CSEF — ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
Please read the a flyer regarding eligibility for CSEF (Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund). You
may be eligible for $125 per child if you hold a Centrelink Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession
Card or a Veteran Affairs Gold Card. Please complete the attached form at the end of the newslet-
ter and return to the school office asap.
SCHOOL MASTERPLAN
We are meeting with our architect to begin the sketch planning of our proposed refurbishment
program in the coming weeks. We will publish these plans for the school community to clearly see
what we plan to do this year with the promised government funding offered last year.
PARISH EDUCATION BOARD
On Tuesday night the new Parish Education Board met for the first time for 2019. This impressive
group of people are there to act as your voice to the school administration and Fr Steve.
The Board is made up of Brendan Walpole (Chair), Cameron Hoey, Deanna Constantin,
Cindy McIntosh, Vanessa Dal Santo, Michael O’Keeffe, Carla Privitera, Jade Scibila, Donna McMah-
on-Puce (ex-parent and Loyola Rep), Tess Dwyer, Fr Steve, Fr Lenin and myself. Please feel free to
contact them if you have any suggestions.
NEW EQUIPMENT
Thanks to Sean Jeffs for dismantling the stone chair in the playground. The children had been
digging under the stones and this was making the structure unsafe. We are hoping to construct our
new climbing frame here during the term break, thanks to the wonderful fundraising of the SCA last
year.
TENNIS LESSONS
Commencing in Term 2 on Tuesdays at lunchtime the school will be offering tennis lessons in the
gym. This is a relationship that we are developing with the St Mary’s Tennis Club. More information
will follow later in the term.

WELLBEING @ ST THOMAS
STAR ON THE YARD At assembly this week we launched a new initiative - ‘Star On The Yard’ as part of our whole
school approach to promoting School Wide Positive Behaviour. This is to promote positive behav-
iour and acknowledge students who are doing amazing things out on the yard.
Students can be nominated by a School Captain, Peer Mediator or a Teacher. Each week 1 student
will be announced as ‘Star On The Yard’, and will receive a certificate of acknowledgement and our
Star On The Yard trophy to keep (at school) on their desk for the week.

ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Congratulations to the 25 students who competed at the Eltham District Swimming Carnival last
Friday morning. All students impressed with both their efforts in the pool and their encouragement
and behaviour out of the pool. I wish to thank all of the students that came along to our before school
training sessions. The improvement from just two or three sessions was evident at the competition.
I also thank parents for making the effort to ensure their children attended these sessions, to train
and prepare for the swimming carnival.
