Dear Parishioners and Friends: The Transfigura on is a glimpse of God’s glory breaking forth from Jesus’ human form. A er

revealing to the disciples that He would have to suffer, Jesus transfigura on previews the change that He will undergo at His resurrec on.

The dazzling light, and the divine voice of approval signal that Jesus’ suffering is the fulfillment of God’s plan for salva on. The transfigura on is a prayer event for each of us. In joy, we give thanks this

“Lord, it is wonderful for us to be here!” Today’s feast reminds us that we will share in the glory of the resurrec on of Christ one day. As followers of Christ, we become the beloved of God who promises eternal life to those who put their trust in the Lord. In the words that resound over Jesus today, we can hear the echo of the words that sounded on the day of our Bap sm. “You are my beloved son/daughter, in whom God is well pleased.”

We pray this week that the heavenly nourishment we receive in the Eucharist will transform us into the likeness of Jesus.

STAR COMMUNITY HOME - provides housing for homeless women and children. Please bring your gi s of non-perishable food items such as cereal, canned food, beans, rice, tuna, etc. and place them on the table by the side door in St. Thomas Church.

ST. BONIFACE HOMELESS - They are in need of socks for the homeless who shelter in the Church during the day. Please place the socks in the baskets at St. Monica and St. Thomas.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD PROGRAM - A Children’s Liturgy Program for St. Thomas the Apostle Parish is held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month from September 2017 to June 2018 during the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Children ages 3-6 experience God’s word in an age-appropriate way. Before the readings, the children will be invited up for a blessing and dismissed to hear the message of the Gospel in a more meaningful way. PHILIPPINE MADRIGAL SINGERS will perform on Sat., August 12, 7:30 pm at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1555 39th Ave., San Francisco. Winners of the Grand Prix in the Interna onal Choral Compe on in Italy in 2016, the Philippine Madrigal Singers kick off their U.S. and European 2017 tour with this San Francisco concert, “Voices of Peace.” Fr. Arnold Zamora, pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, is a former member, composer, and arranger for the choir, and it con nues to perform some of his works.
