Special requests for prayers at liturgy and donations made in honor of loved ones. These intentions and names of our sick are noted on the Table in the Remembrance Book and on the Weekly Sheet. PREPARING FOR NEXT WEEK’S LITURGY 4 th Sunday of Easter First Reading: Acts 4: 8-12 Early in the Acts of the Apostles, Peter and John healed a lame man who sat begging each day at the temple gate. This miracle led to their arrest, and they were brought before the Sanhedrin. In today’s passage, we hear Peter speaking boldly about Jesus to these Jewish leaders. In these few sentences, Peter presents the very heart of the Christian message Second Reading: 1 John 3: 1-2 During this Easter Season, we are read- ing from the first letter of John. Today’s passage reminds us about something both John and Paul emphasized: Jesus has made it possible for us to be God’s sons and daughters, not just in some future life, but here and now. This Week’s Question For Adults: What could you do this week to What questions about Jesus still arise in the midst of your faith? For Children: What question would you like to ask someone about Jesus’ appear- ance to the Apostles? Third Sunday of Easter Earth Day Next Sunday marks the 48th anniversary of Earth Day, a secular celebration that many faith communities also mark for to celebrate the gift of earth and for awareness and action. For instance, Catholic Climate Covenant has joined the Earth Day Network‘s campaign to End Plastic Pollution (www.earthday.org/campaigns/ plasticscampaign). From contributing to land and marine pollution to increasing our use of carbon- producing fuels, our reliance on single-use plastics has a devastating impact on God’s creation. The good news is that we can solve this problem. We can all play a role in reducing plastic pollution and minimizing our contribution to what Pope Francis calls “a throwaway culture” by working together as a community. Watch CC’s short video, “Beyond a Throwaway Culture” at <https://youtu.be/- zYE36pcbXs>. Then consider, “What do I (we) throw away?” Consider a change in lifestyle and action. Action needs to be individual and communal. Pope Francis asks us “to counteract the throwaway culture which affects the entire planet.” • Say NO to disposable plastic whenever and possible. Choose items not packaged in plastic, and carry your own bags, containers and utensils. Say, “no straw, please.” • Reuse durable, non-toxic bottles and bags. Choose alternatives to plastic. • Cut down on your consumption of goods that contain excessive plastic packaging. • Recycle what you can’t refuse, reduce or reuse. Pay attentionto the life cycle of items you bring into your life, from source to manufacturing to distribution to disposal. • Find out about Microbeads, plastic particles in toothpast and body washes that make their way into sewers and then oceans as a major source of polution.
