May the Mother of God, whose Solemnity was this past Wednesday, look over and protect you throughout this new year. May our Lord Jesus, who is the true Light of the World, on this Epiphany show you the glory that we are called to in His presence.

As I clean off the various notes and items on my desk from the past year, I would like to just share with you a few items that might be of interest to you.

First, we now have another Catholic Radio station available in the Denver area. Relevant Radio 1690 AM is on the air. You can also get it online at www.relevantradio.com .

Previously I have mentioned the other Catholic radio station, Catholic Radio Station 1060 AM, which broadcasts EWTN content. Its website is www.Catholicradio.com. I hope you use either or both for your learning, praying, counseling and support in daily living a good, faithful Catholic life.

Second, come along with me on our parish pilgrimage this year to Oberammergau, Germany and northern Italy. We will be going August 25 through September 2 on a trip that is possible only

once every ten years. You see, the town of Oberammergau made a promise centuries ago to put on a full story exposition of the Passion Play of Christ in thanksgiving for the town’s being spared from the plague. This year is the first in a decade that one can see the play, and we have tickets for that. We will be travelling to Munich, seeing Dachau, Innsbruck, Austria, down to Italy to Verona, Venice, Padua and Milan. Sign up now to be a part of this wonderful and rare pilgrimage event. You can find further details on page 5 of this week’s bulletin.

Finally, an alert and reminder. Several of the staff will occasionally receive emails claiming to be from me, or from Mrs. DeWolfe our school principal. If responded to they are asking for money, usually through gift cards that they ask you to purchase and then send them the numbers so that they can use them. When examined, the email addresses might have the correct first names, but the address is not from St. Thomas More. I haven’t heard that this has affected parishioners, but they are getting more adept at these and I ask that you be aware in case you would receive such a request. Please let us know, but don’t respond to the email. Thanks. And God bless and save us from evil intents.

– Msgr. Tom

Bless Your HomePick up chalk, holy water and a house blessing sheet after Mass to bless your home, an annual tradition for the joyous Feast of Epiphany.

Visit our website stthomasmore.org to view a video with more information on blessing your home.

a reflection on today’s solemnity:

the EPIPHANY of the LORD

Epiphany Home BlessingThe ancient tradition of Epiphany Home Blessing is a special, meaningful blessing performed on the Feast of the Epiphany, the Twelfth Day of Christmas. The dioceses of the United States have moved this feast to the Sunday between January 2 and 8.

You are invited to adopt this centuries-old, beautiful Catholic tradition! Pick up chalk, holy water and the Epiphany Home Blessing card after Mass today. Bring these items home to use to celebrate Epiphany and God’s blessing of our lives and home.

Write in chalk over your door the inscription described on the card, say the blessing and sprinkle your home with holy water. The inscription, 20 + C + M + B + 20, consists of the current year 2020 and the letters “C + M + B” – shorthand for the Latin phrase Christus mansionem benedicat: “May Christ bless this house.” The letters are also associated with the initials of the Magi who visited Jesus: Casper, Melchoir and Balthazar. The + represents the Cross.

Ask God’s blessing on your home and on all those who live in and visit the home during the coming year. Seeing the symbols over the doors will remind us that our home and all who dwell there belong to Christ, and we invite Him to be our daily guest.

As we continue our celebration of the Christmas season, we observe today the great Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. The word “epiphany” means manifestation and throughout the Christmas readings we have seen that Jesus is eager to reveal Himself to all those willing to accept His presence. From poor and humble shepherds to the international group of magi featured in today’s Gospel passage, Jesus makes it clear that He offers Himself as a gift to everyone.

We also see throughout the scriptures that God uses what is familiar to us to draw us to Himself. In the case of the magi – astrologers – He uses a star. Our Lord continues to speak to each one of us today. But we must be alert to “hear” and “see” Him in our daily lives.

How can we become better attuned to the ways God is speaking to us? We must strengthen our spiritual “senses” by spending time with the Lord in prayer every single day. In the same way that we set professional goals or exercise goals, we can set spiritual goals to ensure that we are taking the time to listen intentionally to God daily.

When we establish a regular, intentional time for prayer, we will find that the Lord continues to speak to us throughout the day. We will more easily recognize the “stars” He places before us to draw us into closer relationship with Him. We will begin to see that He is indeed present in our lives at every moment. – Catholic Stewardship Consultants
